im doing some longtubes soon and im having trouble deciding what brand to run. my car is low right now and going to be about another inch (tucking tire on coil overs) pretty soon, so i need some headers with decent ground clerance that wont break the bank. so far ive looked at bbk full length 1 5/8 chrome w/ 2.5" collector, and the mac hts coated full lengths with 2.5" collector. i also plan on buying the brands matching o/r x pipe. im leaning toward the bbk because the mac's port flanges arent connected, as mine are now, and they are a bitch to install. anyone run these headers and have and comments? any other suggestions in the $300 price range?

I run mac, had them off various times with no warp issues. I actually installed them again this weekend after having them ceramic coated and install was a breeze...as far as LT installs go. I always use fresh gaskets with each install to prevent any sealing issues.

I was looking at longtubes last night too for when I get a boost worthy engine in the car and I think I'd go with the BBK's cuz they've always been good to me, but my problem is that I'm running a Mcleod SFI bell housing with the TKO and I'm wondeing if they'll clear. Anyone running the same setup as me with longtubes? Sorry didn't mean to threadjack.

I'm going BBK. The one piece flange is the selling point. I've had 2 sets of BBK headers on my old cars and they've NEVER let me down. The 1-5/8" Ceramic LT's are on my X-mas list.

For a budget i'd go with MAC, they're cheap and they work and will make power, plus with the ball and socket flanges it's a piece of cake to swap out mid pipes if you're like me and get bored and change your exhaust a lot.

For serious racing, i'd go with a custom set of Kooks...hands down.

Both set's of bbk longtubes I had cleared a mcleod sfi bell just fine!

I'd recommend a solid flange at the heads and ceramic coating if it's in the budget...

the bbks im looking at are chrome 1 5/8 with a 3/8 solid flange, and a 2.5" socket connector for 245 from summitt. i dont like chrome, but i dont wanna spend another 150 for ceramic coating

I have mac 1 7/8 lt's and have had no problem with fitment or ground clarence. My car is lowered and ridding on coilovers. I also have a kmember as well. My experiance with BBK is bad! I had one of there o/r x pipes on my 95gt and it fit horrible and hung low! I was told they dont even run there product on there race car? I do know there throttle bodies are 100% junk! I've seen 4 of them know break the butterflies! BBK peace

Dont worry the chrome will burn off anyways. So if you want them to look fancy you might as well spend the extra and get the ceramic coating. You can prolly find a set of used chrome bbks for about 180-200 shipped from the classifieds on here or corral and then if you want them to look good all the time just go and get them ceramic coated somewhere for 100 bucks or so. save yourself 50-75 right there.

I used it with a tremec tko. That 5sp combo has since been sold.

I have a set of BBK longtubes and love 'em. Never had any problems with clearance or leaking. The one piece flange is a nice feature.

Do youself a favor, spend the extra $150 on the coating. It decreases engine bay heat, and the headers don't look like crap when the chrome burns off.

Nobody has mentioned this yet so i'll throw it in there.....about lowing your car with full lengths, you're probably going to have ground clearance issues. My car scrapes sometimes on good sized speed bumps, and it's really not that low...just food for thought.

i got heddman long tubes and i have a tubular k member with coil overs on the front. it is pretty low in the front and i have no scraping. the headers have the 3 bolt flanges though.
