I have made the decision that pypes longtube headers with their catless midpipe are my next mod. I made my decision partly on the advice of the techs at brenspeed whom clearly recomended them because of their affordable price, fitment and quality. Said they were excellent copies of kooks at half the price. Works for me! I am also gonna order two of their high flow cats which I will eventually splice in. I have read too many times that without cats its gonna be real LOUD!

So my question is: Is the gaskets that come with the pypes kit good enough or should I be getting something else? What about hardware? Is there anything else I need for this install? I know its a PIA and will take many hours but my friends are willing and able! LOL:rlaugh:

thanks

 After these that is... :rlaugh:

Have fun! Should sound really good after you are done. The cats will help take out the raspiness that comes from just straight pipes. Either way, good choice. If I had the money I would get some AR headers from Sparta :(

The deal is going on the April 30th! :D Plenty of time to save up for headers 100% MADE IN THE USA unlike Chinese made choices above.

I wouldn't buy the cats yet.

Your car may not get a bit louder with LT's.

I think mine actually got quieter. It did make the exhaust sound deeper and it also changed the tone in a good way.

Well I ordered the pypes longtubes today with a H pipe and a set of cats. I can install without the cats and see if its too loud. Tech at brenspeed mentioned it was no big deal to take the mid pipe apart since it comes in sections and add the cats after the fact. I went with an H pipe instead of the x. Looking for more of a deeper throaty sound and not so raspy.

I am sure AR headers are nice, I have read many a good things about them, but for my plans for my mustang they are out of my mod budget.

patrick

Is that the mod budget for the Mustang or both of the beasts? :rlaugh: Then again maybe there is nothing else left to do on the Viper :p

I have done everything I really want to do to the Viper. But to give you an idea of costs.....everything costs way more when the name Viper is attached. Longtube headers $1500 to $2000 and thats just for the LTs no cats. High flows are another $400+. So when I can get Pypes LTs for $500 I get excited! LOL Truck has so much torque I cannot give it full throttle in first or even second gear at all. I have put it sideways shifting into third at full throttle at the track! Driving it at or near full throttle is like trying to control a wild animal. Its a blast being on the edge so much.

For you guys whom installed your stang LT headers in your driveway how high did you have to rise your car? Do ramps in back and axle stands up front provide enough lift?

I know how people prefer to buy American first. I understand this. But, buying those headers from Brenspeed is supporting an American retailer. The company that processes their credit cards is an American company. Pypes is an American company that happens to get their stuff made in China. I own my own business. I purchase items that are manufactured in China and wholesale them here on Maui. We are a world economy. Competion is good for the market, it brings better products at a better price to the masses.

As far as Pypes being a good product.....both Mustangs owned by the techs at brenspeed have pypes longtubes on their cars! Tech told me he has installed over 30 sets without any issues. Enough said.

The install should be pretty straight forward, I just put jack stands on the front and I had enough room. As far as gaskets or extra hardware, I reused my old gaskets and have had no issues, then again my car was only a few months old, One thing you def wanna get though is some stage 8 locking header bolts, they will save you TONS of headaches, longtubes have a tendency to back out the header bolts over time, locking bolts will ensure they stay in place. You will also need O2 extensions for your front O2's and if you end up putting the high flow cats on you will need some for the rear O2's as well. And finally dont forget your tune, the car WILL need to be retuned afterwards

That is always the excuse people give, that's just like saying "I'm not racist I have [so & so] friends". Not for nothing as sponsor I try to keep my mouth shut on issues like this but retailers employee hand fulls of people and if they go out of business they get a job at another retailer. Manufacturers are the ones suffering they are the ones that employee hundreds i.e A.R headers, they have about 24 - 30 employees but they buy their steel tubes and flanges from an AMERICAN manufacturer, they buy catalytic converters from another AMERICAN manufacturer, brackets, bolts and nuts from and a third AMERICAN manufacturer. All and all its a chain that keeps 100's of people in various municipalities around the country employed! The only person you helped here is the people that own Pypes, the hourly paid employee on the phone that took your order and the HUNDREDS EMPLOYED IN CHINA!!!! that manufacture all the stuff I mentioned above. If it was a world economy we'ld have the same currency. I hope you don't plan on keeping your car for too long because those "world" headers will need to be replaced in a few years due to junk metal and labor.

exactly. an exact copy of kooks doesn't mean sh¡t when they are using tin cans for the headers. kooks and other high end brands don't just make up a price to go with market. cause obviously there are headers half their price. but the quality, fitment, and the consistency of their products are top notch.

they dont have their prices that high to rip off customers.

you can buy the cheaper bbk, bassani, mac, etc. but when they rust out prematurely, or the "chrome" plating starts flaking off and they look like dogsh¡t, and when they are a pain in the ass to install, when even when installed correctly they dont fit, and they don't seal up properly. and you end up having to buy headers again do to going cheap the first time, you realize its cheaper just to do it right the first time and not have to worry about it.

sorry for the rant, i just know alot of people that would rather do things the cheap way wait for them to break then do them the right way. and end up spending more money then if they just did it the way they should of the first time they wouldn't have the problem.

gotta pay to play.

i am not a big fan of pypes taking kooks and directly copying them. all the r&d that kooks put into making the headers such a quality piece, mimic'd at half the price, so people who do not understand the difference in quality you are receiving, only looking at dollar amnt.

not bad mouthing pypes, but thats a pretty scumbag thing to do.

I understand your view and respect it. You get what you pay for and in reality I will get bored with this car and move on long before my inferior pipes fall apart. I am ok with that. No reason to get upset. Its America and its good to have different opinions.

Echo, thanks for the tip.
