Look at the junk I found in my tailpipes?

I came home from my softball game tonight and the lights stayed on my truck long enough to shine in my tailpies and as I walked by the mustang in the garage I noticed some junk in my tailpipes. They looked like the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag! I swiped my finger in my magnaflow tip and found a bunch of very small gold shavings and what looked like small pieces of fiberglass insulation. I put a used VRS X pipe on about 250 miles ago and the car has 4500 miles on it. I started it up and the thing runs fine but blew a bunch of dust on the garage floor. I took some pictures but tried many times to upload them on this post but Internet explorer shuts down every time. I've posted pics before with no problems.

What do you think is up?

Maybe your muffler is deteriorating and its material is getting shot out? Or maybe your engine is eating itself alive

It definitely looks like the batting from the mufflers.

Your sig says you have a magnaflow, PM the magnaflow rep on here and ask him if its possibly the material they use in the mufflers. I can't remember his member name, but you can search for him.

Belly button lint??? J/K...looks like it's from the mufflers. Call or e-mail Magnaflow and see what they use in the mufflers. How long ago did you buy them?

I would consider the muffler if it was one side but this junk was in both sides.
I doubt that both mufflers would go out at the same time. BTW my Magnaflow catback is less than a year old

Just called Magnaflow and got through to a tech in seconds (That hadly happens) and he's convinced that I have a converter melting down!

Magnaflow uses what they call a "rock wool" material made of lava for their sound deadening. They have an article on the website. I would contact them

Hey, not sure if you have cats, but if you do, i bet the "gold flakes" is your cats, they've got platinum in them, it's used for the catalyst. If not... well, i dunno

That happened to me on my Jeep a few years ago just before the cats went...it's either the cats or the muffler.
