Lookin for help and advice

Me and my Dad are doing a restore on a 88 gt. We got plans on running a turbo set up but we're both new to the whole thing but we also wanna do things right starting from the bottom. I was lookin for a good block to use and we we're kinda set on a r302 but reading around ford racing has a fairly new boss 302 block that i was reading on in this article Boss 302 Engine - 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine . He was questioning if everything would bolt up together etc... Anyways if somebody could shoot us a little advice our way it would be greatly appreciated. Still deciding on transmission as well possibly a c6 or somethin like the newer cars are usin the 6speed autos unsure on that as well on how it would all work together. Anyways any help you guys could send our way would be nice. thanks in advance.

c6 is a friggin boat anchor

what kinda goals are you looking for??? dont give me hp, thats a mystical number

11 sec car?
10 sec car?
9 sec car?

stock block and HCI will see 12's, power adder see 11's
the stock block stroked will get you 10's with a power adder
a 460 swap is simple and your looking at huge power

c4's, tremec manuals, and powerglide if your really serious, i hate to go that way, but it's the way to go

Lots of stock block/crank/rods 302/306s out there with power adders going 10s... But on borrowed time, usually.

That certainly is the truth!

Get the boss block, have a 331 thrown at it and install a hellion kit. Have it tuned via PMS and be sure to have a whole new fuel system added to the car...lines rails, big arse pump

700rwhp would not be out of the question. Price tag of doing it right the first time...15-20G.

Now I know that some shade tree guys will jump on here with their slapped-together stock blocks and craigslist heads in addition to a 300 big shot installed, waiting to crack their stock blocks in half saying that they could build it faster for cheaper...been there done that.

If you want to go the turbo route...read this:

Also consider phasing your project...perhaps this year you have the 331 installed with a blower cam and drive the car for a year or two while you save up, pay off, or justify moving the project forward.

If you feel that you need more or are ready for phase two, then by all means, call up Hellion and Aeromotive and order up the parts.

Sorry for the late reply thanks for the input here and there. Me and him are mostly lookin to keep the car streetable its more than likely only gonna see the strip 3 to 5 times a year other than that just a cruiser. We don't really have any set quartermile goal atm I'm thinkin we'd both be satisfied with 10 sec range. We just wanna do it right. Somethin else we do want though is the twin turb set up just for a little ooo and ahh. We plan on keepin the a/c and trying to keep full interior as well just so ya don't get the idea we're makin a race car here. We know you can pull off numbers with all motor builds but we're not shootin for that. If we can keep it a 302 that's what we'd like to do but if it helps with longevity by selecting something else we may consider. Anyways hope that helps with some more input on our plans. Also do we need to worry about the rear end? will the 8.8 hold up to our goal? We are having it minitubbed I guess you would say atm while the rust is getting fixed as well.

8.8 is plenty strong. guy in our club just redid his blower motor with a Dart block...pricey, but that is one strong block. He now has a block that can handle 1400hp, and his internals can handle 1200hp....needless to say he can throw anything he wants at it now, or in the future....peace of mind is priceless :nice:

the 8.8 is strong but I highly suggest the upgraded internals like 31 spline and c clip eliminators. Lot of peeps making less that 400 rwhp find this out at the track when an axles flies out of the tube.
