I'm lookin into a few transmissions just wondering what I will need to do the swap to something like a T-3550. Im at work so it has to be short. Either that or the G-force. Anyone have opinions. Ive heard I need extra parts to swap a 3550 in. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Are you going from an Auto to 5-speed? If so, I can help you out a bit, i did mine back in '98, didnt' do a tremec though, just a t-5., but it worked out great. still working great. Don't know for sure, but I think the bellhousings are differnet for the tremec line as opposed to t-5. Good luck man, later
Ive been looking into the TKO500 since I had some more time to look around at work earlier. But Im not to happy about spending the money on them. They are going for upwards of $1600. For that price I might as well just go with the x2c one. However for a stock motor that would be a little overkill.
I already have a 5-speed so I wont be converting. But I have heard that If I go with the TKO500 that I will need a new bellhousing and clutch fork. That just adds to the bill. Is there any company to reccomend that has everything ready to go. Im going to be ordering it through the Porshe dealer im working at so hopefully I will get list price. Tremec has a few destributors in chicago. Whereas the g-force trans probably wont have a list price because its an aftermarket company that does performance upgrades.
Im sort of up in the air. Anyone have experience with either company.
I ordered the conversion kit from MPS, think it was around 1500, again this was 1998 prices. It did come with everything, all the little nuts and bolts, blah blah blah. I searched around the junkyards where I lived at the time, (NW Florida) trying to piece it all together, and dio it cheaper of course, but the swap kit was better priced after the final tally. i swapped my t-5 to a TKO600 a few months ago and i love this tranny, my engine is mostly stock too but with it being a little overkill its not really gonna matter, you just wont have to swap trannys if you decide to make more power later(which i plan to do). i got everything from powered by ford in orlando,fl and it cost me right at $2k for everything. you will have to swap the bellhousing, clutchfork, clutch and the slip yolk for the TKO600, i think the TKO500 is the same spline though so you wouldnt have to get a different slip yolk and clutch.
I found a couple of places with the old model of the tko/3550 and its about $1400 shipped to my door. And thats with a bellhousing. What else would I need for that specific transmission.

Does the yoke and imput shaft spline match that of a stock t-5 so I can use my stock driveshaft and clutch? Its a new king cobra so Id like to use it for the new trans.
I went into a MM&FF magazine and called all of the places with the 3550 listed. Some companies still have them. he prices are at about $1250. And then you have to addd all the neccesary parts.
