Looking at some 94/95 GT/Cobras, have a few Q's

The 94/95 cobra's arent that much better than the GT, especially if you choose to mod them, the only thing the cobras have are a better front bumper and better brakes (and a few other things), not worth the HUGE jump in insureance rates if you ask me....now the 96+ cobras are a whole different story :hail2:

I'm guessing your 18/19 years old, insurance on a kewbra will kill you :nonono:

Arent much better???
there 2 different cars, I have owned both and can honestly say the cobra is sooooo much better in so many ways,
1. Better brakes $400 used
2. better heads and valvetrain (rockers) another $300 - 400 used
3. Better eec tune (nothing to brag about but still better)
4. Better tranny (phosphate coated gears)
5. front bumper $300 unpainted
6. better intake $150 - 300 used
7. better handling and steering closer ratio rack and pinion
8. Engine oil cooler
9. power steering cooler
10.lightened flywheel $80 to resurface and lighten - balance
11. bigger injectors $100 - 200 used
12. crystal clear headlights stock
13. and all the cool cobra emblems. There is more but you get the point.
Minimum if you add up most of this your looking at $1800 in used parts not including install. Now for all who are going to say well just buy a gt and get aluminum heads, edel intake, and a better cam and its faster than a cobra! I say why not get the cobra, get the h/c/i sell your stock stuff to one of those who want to be a cobra and end up still spending less than a gt. Sure you could sell your stock gt stuff but lets be real who wants stock e7 heads?? who wants a stock gt intake?? who wants stock cam??? certainly not me, and i'm sure not most all the people here.
Add all this stuff up and you tell me the extra 1 - 2 k is worth it to you??
As for the insurance it cant be more than 20 - 50 more a month.
And lets not forget our resale value is higher, as well as being somewhat exclusive.

Super 302 I'm not flaming you and I dont mean to sound like an a$$hole, but facts are facts, the cars are very different. I will never buy another Gt. And yes I agree 96 + cobras :hail2:

I didn't say it wasn't better, i'm saying if your gonna re-do the entire car (h/c/i, tranny) etc. you're better off with a GT b/c of cheaper initial cost and cheaper insurance
so that 1-2k in "extras" (if you can even come close to selling the stuff for that much), it will still cost more than a GT, a cobra will cost 7-9k, a GT will be 4-5k....unless you HAVE to get a cobra....but then i'd still get a 96+

BTW-he is only 17/18 years old, insurance (if he can even be insured on a cobra) will be outrageous, i called and it was like $4k a year for liability (clean record)

You all get screwed in other states, Ins. for me here is 65 month I am 30 but I have an accident and a Dui on my record. My neighbor is 18 and has a 99 gt and pays 115 a month, for my car he would be paying 110 a month and for the 95 gt he was looking at was 95 a month. He was going to buy my car when I bought the mercedes. so I dont really see the diff.

It's really stupid that they do that. I could see that being the case on an 03-04 Cobra..... but the 94-95 snakes were only like 15 more HP. Cosmetically the same as well, except a different wing & bumpers. A few minor things. That is rediculous. If you are sold on a Cobra, I'd save $$ & get a GT..... then change everything but "Digit #8". You'll save a ****load. But then you'll get flamed for owning a Fobra.... but it's what you want. :D

I think you overread what I said. I won't be insured as primary driver on the cobra. My dad will. So it will be a 43 year old insured on a 10 year old car, with either me as secondary, or provided anything happens, I just took it for a joyride with his permission. Is it still going to be that bad?

I won't own a fake cobra. I want the real thing or a regular gt. If I went cobra, I'd probably put a power adder on it, maybe a larger cam, change the exhaust to what I want, other bolt ons and be done with it. Then again I'd buy a built one if one came along that I wanted.

Basically, what I'm asking for is opinions. Either way, my dad will most like be insured as driver on the car, most likely as "pleasure" or something else, and I'll be secondary or just taking it for a spin. So in closing, in your honest opinion, do you think the cobra is worth the extra money over a gt?

YES "I" deffinately think it's worth it. And for anyone who is getting screwed on ins. try triple A's ins. I switched from mercury over a year ago and i pay a few hundred less per year, and you can get a deal if you get your home owners ins. with them as well, its like 10 or 15% cheaper. state farm is highway robbery, But they do pay there claims alot faster than other ins. companies.

Im kicking myself in the butt for not getting a cobra. . .Dont get me wrong i LOVE My gt but now im saving and scraping every penny i can to mod it and make it as fast as the cobra comes stock. .

But yeah im in the same situation when it comes to insurance im 20 and my dad's name is on the title and ive got insurance through him, i am the primary driver of a 93 toyota camry *what a beast* . but we have 5 vehicles on the same insurance so i only pay 140 every 6 months for the stang, and the camry is 300, talk about messed up lol. but i was afraid the insurance would have been alot more on a cobra so dummy me got the gt. Now im just going to keep it, but when i finish nursing school there will be an 06 cobra in my garage just wait and see.
