Looking for a one wire alternator

I want to buy a 3g one wire alternator for my 65 mustang convertable.
I'll be upgrading the lighting and putting a modest stereo in it.

I'm trying to find a good alternator that will bolt right in. I understand I'll have to rewire the interface between the alternator and the car, get rid of the regular etc. no problem there.

Does anybody have any suggestions on a good quality, bolt in alternator for a 65 mustang. (Understand the wiring issues).

I came across this one on EBay. Has anybody heard about these?

I bought a 6g on ebay from a guy that sells them all the time. Mine had a "buy it now" $114. The 6g is the same but in a compact body. Mine came with a serpentine pulley, and it wasn't a pulley I could just swap out.

He sells 3g's too.

Pa-performance is where I got mine. Direct bolt in. I also got mine polished. They have many colors.

powermaster makes great one wire alternators..i have one and havent had any problems sine

I got an alternator for a '95 GT from the local parts store. It's 130 amp, but you probably don't want to go that high unless you really need it since belt squeal is an issue.

latamud - what did you do with that 6G? Were you able to get the pully off and use a Grove type pully? If so, could you use the standard pully?

I assume that all of these alternators fit the standard 65 Mustang brackets?

I went to local rebuilder that made me one for 65 bucks,it a 105 amp and fit great,no problems for the past 5 years

That web site about the Delco 3 wire alternators has changed everything.

I'm hiding all of the wiring in the engine compartment that I can. So I don't want to add extra wires to the engine compartment. But after reading up on the 3 wire alternator, I think this is a great fit for the mustang. I think that if I heat shrink the three wires coming from the 12Si alternator, it would look like one wire.

I'm putting the battery and fuse box in the trunk, so I think the alternator sensor wire would be particularly effective since it would run way back to the trunk.

The alternator should automatically adapt to any wiring impedence issues from the long distance to the trunk.

Plus the idiot charging light on the dash still works (if I read this right).

another power master here....1 damn wire...looks great, ive got 130 amps (for my system) and after a year and a half it still charges at 14.5 WOOT

It could be ordered with a v-pulley. I bought a March kit for $200 that was serpentine. It had the grooved in the water pump pulley so I didn't have to use a reverse rotation water pump. I am going to run a serpentine supercharger and didn't want the mixed V-belt and serpentine under the hood. It is a 130A and will fit in the stock brackets.

I moved all my electronics to the rear. Battery, solenoid, fuse blocks, alarm, relays, etc... I didn't go for all that "hide the wiring" stuff, but I did custom rewire the entire car to accomodate all my add ons
