Looking for newer GT, how to tell which ones are 260 or 305 hp?

I am looking to buy a newer GT, I have seen alot of diff models and I have seen that some are 260 hp and some are 305 hp. How can I tell when I am looking to buy which ones are which? I would like to go with the 305 hp model...

What do you mean by a newer GT? Do you mean an 05 GT or a 99-04 GT?

All 99-04 GT's have 260. Only the 03-04 Mach 1's have 305. The 05 GT's are 300.

It's easy to tell the GTs that have the 300hp engines. They are the ones that are Brand new 2005
The Cobras and Mach1's have the 305HP engines, not the GT. Unless you are talking about the 2005's

Maybe hes meanin the Machs? I'd say its easy cause they have a shaker... but um I put one on mine, I'd say because the machs have a painted spoiler, but others have done that... The seats are the easiest way to tell the difference on the 03/04 Machs and GTs IF you cant see the obvious difference in the engine bay.

The 05's are 300+ HP but those are obvious...

If youre looking for a GT it should have GT badging no chin spoiler and be a 99+ if you want 260 FWHP stock, if you want the 300+ HP stock get a Mach1 wich should have classic looking seats, a different insturment cluster, silver trim around the stereo, chin spoiler, shaker scoop, Either a pony on the fender or an anneversiary pony, mach1 badgind on the trunk lid... I'd be really upset to find a dealer selling a GT as a MAch if it had the appearance copied... check VINs to cover your butt

99-04 GT = 260hp

There are no GTs with 305 horsepower, unless you're talking about the '05 which is 300 on the dot.

305hp = 1996-2001 cobras/mach 1s

93,94,95 cobras are 240 horses
96-98 GT's are 225 as well
99-04 GT's have 260 horses
Mach 1's have 305
99,00,01 cobras have 325 horses
never buy an 02 cobra and if sombody has one for sale, call them a liar
the wonderful 03 and 04 cobras have an underrated 390 horsepower

My suggestion...get an 04 cobra...they are fun




check that...no cobra in 2000...sorry, got a little carried away...2000 had the cobra R and 99 and 01's have 320...not 325...sorry for the confusion

I think what he meant by FWHP was Fly Wheel Horse power.

Anyways, like everybody is saying the Mach 1 are the only Stangs you are going to find stock with 300HP without stepping up to our big brother, the mighty Cobra. If you can afford it go 03/04 Cobra, 390HP and underrated by all accounts too.

99/01 Cobra's are rated at 320.

If the 99-04 GT is what you're looking at, then 260HP/302TQ is what you're going to get:

But you can get a used 03/04 Mach 1 for around what a new/slightly used GT would cost, and you get 305 underrated HP:

I think the '00 R was actually 385hp/385 torque, but you're close enough.....I personally think the '05's are overated, not underated. But i'm talking generally and not with respect to horsepower levels.
