When pulling my intake today I found that the grommet that goes in the back of the intake was not even down in the hole but hovering just above it. I'll get it corrected on the re-install.

I'm wondering what I might have been loosing with this grommet not in the hole. The car ran good but maybe I was still loosing something. What say you?

It's basically like any vacuum leak at the intake & can create problems. Hard to say though.... Mine was out & upside down for a short while years ago & the car didn't like it one bit.....

It's going to create a vacuum leak if not seated and sealed properly. Probably it's just old- its a cheap part so replace it with a new one while it's out.. I also put a light coat of RTV on it to keep it in place. Makue sure the screen is intact.

You can find the replacement grommet in the "Help" isle in most auto parts stores. Also as mentioned above plan on changing the screen as well. RTV or a single wrap of electrical tape around the grommet will hold it in place.
