Loping Problem

Hey guys, quick question-
On my 91 LX there is a lope of about 100-200RPM once the engine is warm. I've cleaned the TB with a TB cleaner available at an auto parts store, i've gapped the plugs, and all of the vaccuum lines seem to be in good shape. Some people have suggested Sea Foam, but I'm certainly up for all suggestions. I think after this lope gets taken care of, I'm good to go for many miles of enjoyment.
Thanks
Mike

Is the motor stock?

What is your warm idle setting?

Is it an actual lope (like from a racier cam. A lope with cadence) or more like surging? If the latter, check out the sticky at the top of the page by JRichker.

Good luck.

the motor is all stock except for a K&N, raised timing to 14, and ford racing wires

I guess I don't know the true meaning of "lope", when it is at idle, it will go down to about 600RPM then up to 800RPM in the course of about a second or two.

And I've never heard of the "warm idle setting"

Sorry I'm not very knowlegeble about this

Thanks

I would check out the surging sticy at the top of the page. It sounds more like you have the dreaded (and common) idle surging.

If someone has reset the idle setting improperly, the computer will fight itself and the ancillary components which affect the idle (IAC, TPS to an extent, etc).

In my first post on that thread, I posted a link to a tech article on checking and resetting the idle. That may open a new can of worms (new variables), but if this bothers you, it might be worth checking.

Good luck.
