Losing my tune?

I have the mods in my sig and the 93 octane tune from brenspeed does wonders when I first flash the computer. But within a few weeks it loses power and the dreaded throttle lag comes back.

And no I'm not imagining this, the throttle lag is very noticeable as we all know. When it's freshly tuned there's no comparison but it loses power over the next few weeks and the lag is so bad it feels like it has turbo only the car has no get up and go.

There is also detonation in the high rpm's but NOT right after flashing.

I've already talked to brent about this and he sent me 3 new tunes but they still do the same. I like Brent but something is off here.

Should I try bamachips or do I have a problem with the SCT?

There's been much debate as of late, as to whether the adaptive learning starts compensating for your tune over time. There really hasn't been a clear answer. Brent has said that the adaptive learning is not turned off with the tune, but also the computer shouldn't take away performance. But many people have noticed a decrease in performance over time. Some people notice it, some people don't. It may be computer specific. If you are one of the ones that notices it, just reflash when you fill up. You'll probably be reflashed before the tank is done filling.

Darkfire, what do you mean by reflash when I fill up?

I believe it's a joke based on the length of time it actually takes to fill a Mustang tank and a clear slur on the genius of Fords development programme.

You said you feel a difference after a few weeks. So I was stating that when you go to get gas, reload your tune while you're waiting for your gas tank to fill. That's about all that can be done right now, until someone figures out how to completely disable the adaptive learning.

I'm not doubting you at all but how does that differ from retuning without gas going in.

Do you think a bamatune may be worth a try? I've got some LT's that are going on soon so I'll need a new tune anyway.

Also, would the 87 or 91 tune possibly work better?

This adaptive learning sucks.

Octane wouldn't make a difference. If you like 93, stick with the 93.

I was just saying instead of standing outside your car looking around waiting for your car to fill up, you could use that time to reflash lol. It doesn't matter when you do it, but that's something you usually do once every week or two, and you've got nothing better to do during that time.

O.K. I see I could look really cool too doing that too lol.

There seems to be a few threads floating around the net on this. I read while ago that you can drive the car hard after a retune and that will help the car adapt to performance over gas mileage but I don't know how long the adaptation period lasts.

My car isn't a daily driver, it sometimes sits several days without even being fired up. I baby it when I do drive it, then when I get on it nothing is there. Once it's reflashed it literally jumps off the line. It revs so quick I sometimes have to slip the clutch out to keep the tires from spinning. Night and day difference.

I hope someone figures out a way to change this.

I've had my Brenspeed 93 tune in since March and haven't noticed any drop in performance.

I was just saying instead of standing outside your car looking around waiting for your car to fill up, you could use that time to reflash lol. It doesn't matter when you do it, but that's something you usually do once every week or two, and you've got nothing better to do during that time.

He must not have one of the PIA gas tanks that keeps clicking off the fuel pump every few seconds.

Dang!!!! I fill up every 3-4 days! This is one fun to drive car

It is interesting this thread popped up...

I also was experiencing some odd behaviour of the car..

So I drove it away for a weekend, had the valet take it, and park it for the night..

When I got in, in the morning, felt like the throttle lag came back, and really did not feel like a tuned car..

VERRY Strange.. my first thought was that the bastages killed the battery, and jumped it when they went to get it..

But, alas, my stereo presets all same.. Checked engine for problems, found nothing.. Got it home, plugged in the sct, and reflashed it, and its back to normal.......

ODDD......

I think the adaptive learning is a REALITY.. Now weekly I will be flashing my ECU..

I will be having my car dynoed soon, would be interesting to put it on the dyno a few weeks after flashing, get those numbers, then reflash it and immediately dyno it again.

That would be interesting.

I experienced the same type of thing with my 07 GT 5-spd. I got the 93 Octane tune from Brenspeed, flashed it and the car was ripping. I drove it like this for about two weeks and all was fine and I was really happy. I got in it yesterday and noticed a big drop in low-end power and throttle response. I reflashed the comp just to make sure it was running the Brenspeed tune but nothing changed? It still ran like a dog and has been doing this for the last couple of days. I even disconnected the battery and reflashed and the same thing. Hear I thought I finally had my car running like the machine it could be. Really disappointed.

It appears that your problem may be caused caused by a dirty MAF and/or a dirty TB.
Suggest cleaning the MAF with an aerosol can of quick drying electronics cleaner, and the TB with TB cleaner.
If those do not help, then I read that a plugged up cat can also cause the same problem.

Loosing Tune?

I have an '06 GT. I have read about this before. I have had my 93 octane in since last January. I was concerned about it so I re-flashed my stock tune then re loaded my 93 octane tune (from Brenspeed). I didn't notice any difference what soever. Car runs great.

Wonder if its different on the 05's... Just very odd..

Also could be a bad batch of gas... Or weather, or really anything I guess..

Oh well, a re-flash wont hurt it.. and I guess my brain decided it was fixed lol..

Me too!

I had mine retuned several months ago and have noticed that lad has returned and nothing like when first driven after tune. I thought it was my imagination and i was just gettting used to the power and it was time to spend some more $$$$$$$$. Think i'll try the occ retuning first.

The loss of power you mention is probably due to the issue with the Shaker 500/1000. I kept losing power every week on my 06 GT Vert until I read somewhere that the shaker wasn't shutting down properly when you turn the car off.

Since then, I always make sure the Shaker was turned off before I turned the car off. I've never had a power loss ever since, even went 2 weeks without cranking her up while I was on vacation.

Thanks for the info, but this thread is regarding power loss from the engine while it's running.
You're referring to a battery problem that causes a "no start" condition.

Yeah I just realized after rereading the thread again. I've definitely noticed the loss of power before tune. After Doug's 93 torque tune, I really haven't felt it.
