Loud Clunk Noise from Engine???

I was driving home from school today, and just as it says, there was a lond clunk noise coming from the engine, it did it twice, i was in first gear, about to pull out onto a road. It was 2 fast "clunks" and the car surged and hesitated, then it went on normally. The engine was cold...but i dunno what it was, it sounded bad.

Maybe let the engine warm up for a minute before driving in the winter time. I know that my car will hesitate a bit if I just get in and go without letting it idle for a minute before I takeoff. In the summer this is not a problem.

I once owned a 94 Taurus and I had the same thing happened when I was starting from a stop only. I raised the hood to find out I had broken an engine mount and the entire engine was lifting up and smashing the underside of the hood. A disturbing sight to say the least..... Not likely the problem, but ya never know!!

i had a feeling that it could be a motor mount...

I broke a mount on my 94. It broke both flanges where it mounts to the block. the drivers side header was all dented from hitting the steering column.

Inspect the motor and tranny mounts I had these thing rip apart after my tranny was rebuilt and new oem clutch installed. I purchased the prothane polyurathane(sp?) motor&tranny mount kit and must say these things are solid. You feel a bit more drive train vibration but well worth the investment.

check out your belt tensioner, when the belt is all the way lose, it wil clunk when its cold, then the belt shrinks as it heats up, it howeevr wont casue stalling
