Loud Droning Engine - Will Cervinis Hood Liner Suppress The Droning?

Hello,

I removed my stock hood liner from my stock hood, because I didn't like the way it looks, and because it had a lot of dirt on it.

Now, it seems like the engine sounds louder, which is sort of a good thing, in a way.

However, there's a droning component to the loudness, which is annoyingly loud. I think it's making my ears ring. I like to drive with my windows down, which I guess makes the noise sound even louder.

I was thinking about getting a Cervinis 4" cowl induction hood, with the finished underside liner.

Does the Cervinis underside liner dampen the engine noise somewhat, like the stock liner?

Will the fact that the Cervinis hood is fiberglass, make it dampen more noise than the stock metal hood?

Also, does anyone know of any aftermarket underhood liners for the stock hood, something that is smooth, and can be painted, and dampens some of the noise?

My engine, exhaust, and intake are bone stock, at the moment, but I may someday upgrade them, which is why I'm leaning toward getting the cowl hood.

Also, does anyone know if the droning is caused by the stock exhaust?

Should I just put some sound deadening material under the hood, such as the following? The Silencer Series -> "Motor Mat" looks interesting.

By the way, I wonder if the droning has something to do with the fact that my mufflers, which are stock, have holes in them, in the back and front of the mufflers. I guess the mufflers have corroded or something, causing the holes.

Bone stock shouldn't be that loud. IMO the holes in the mufflers are whats causing the drone. If they really bother you, get some muffler tape and wrap it up. This is just a temporary fix, and can only be used on small holes. Its a quick fix just to make your car more driveable without breaking your ear drums.

Thanks sunil6784, that's a good idea.

you can probly find some stock mufflers for cheap at a junkyard, like 20or30 bucks, i think i have a set of stockers of a 93 you can have if you want

I patched the muffler holes with 6 layers of metal muffler tape, and that seemed to reduce the drone.

I don't know if it's as quiet as it was with the hood liner.

I wonder if new mufflers would be quieter than my patched old mufflers.

Anyway, I'm still thinking about getting the aftermarket hoodliner, but I don't want to spend money on the stock hood, because I want to eventually get a cowl hood.

So...I think I'm going to order the 4" Cervinis cowl hood, with the finished underside liner. First, though, I'm going to call them and ask them if the liner deadens some of the engine noise. If it's still too loud, though, I guess I can always get the aftermarket hoodliner and install it underneath the Cervinis liner.
