Low RPM Horsepower/Torque after Tune and CAI

Relatively new to this! I installed a JLT CAI and AM/Bama 91 Race tune recently on 05 GT Vert Automatic. Overall car feels quicker, shifts a lot firmer, etc.. But I've noticed under normal around town driving the HP/Torque under 3500 RPM's or so feels less (like accelerating out of a 90 degree corner in 2nd). I am curious if this is normal? Do these tunes w/CAI normally do this? Does anyone have a dyno showing 2-3.5k RPM HP/TQ before and after?

Any comments appreciated!

Well if I am reading your list right you got a race tune correct? I don't know how Bama is defining their tunes, but it used to be that a race tune would sacrifice a little, a little mind you, bit of low end grunt for top end power. That's why they offered their Torque tune as well that would give you specifically low end power and sacrifice some top end in exchange.

So they might still be tuning this way and that is what you feel. Still give Doug or Mike a call and ask. No harm in doing so and they would more than willing to help I'm sure...

Yes- The tune I am using is the 91 Octane Bama / Amer Muscle Race tune.

I sent an email to AM regarding this and they did respond with the following:

"The race tune is really only set up for the track, so the majority of the power is in the higher RPM’s, seeing as when racing, you are always in high RPM’s. It is not meant for the street. The performance tune is similar, the majority of the power is focused in the mid to high RPM range, but it is more streetable due to a different set up on the throttle. It’s not quite as touchy. The biggest gain in low end torque is with the street tune. It is designed to provide the most low end torque for daily driving, because for most people daily driving their cars, it rarely sees anything higher then 3-4k RPM."

Only thing is they really didn't address whether the Race tune has less HP/Torque at low RPM's vs. stock (to me it feels like it has less in the lower RPM's). They really just acknowledged that the Race tune has has less HP/TQ than the "Performance" and "Street" tunes at lower RPM's.

STANGMole - I don't think they do the Torque tunes anymore now that Bama is at AM.

So when you got the package from AM, do they offer you three tunes of your choice, or is it the same tune (performance, race, OR street) for three octane ratings?

In other words, I'd like to get the CAI/Tune kit for my GT but would prefer two different tunes (performance and street) for 87 octane (I'm a cheap-ass that drives in the rain) and one tune for 92 octane for the summer months where I'd be more likely to enjoy the added HP.

When I ordered my kit about a week after Bama went to AM I called it in and from what they told me they did not have a Torque tune nor did they even have any 89, or 92 tunes. 87, 91, 93 in Economy, Street, Performance, and Race. I got the 87 economy, and Race and Performance 91 since we don't have consistent 93 octane in Minneapolis area.

I've only run the Race thus far but may load up the Performance and see how that feels/runs.

I also recently got an iphone and loaded the Dynolicious app which can measure times, HP etc... Honestly no where nearby to test thats a safe decent stretch, but the 1x I ran so far (with a full tank gas, 05 vert with Auto - over 3800lbs with me in it) it showed 351hp (crank) based on the entered weight, G force, and times (0-60 5.26, 60' was a crap 2.36, and even after letting off the 1/8 said something like 79mph at 8.9 or so). It may be a while but I will try to test the Performance tune as well.

I've tried the race and torque tunes, and the race tune felt the same to me in the lower end as the torque tune. I was under the impression that the race tune had the low end of the torque tune and the high end of the performance tune. Maybe the tune needs tweaked.
