i installed a 180 but since i have UD pullies it runs at 195. im going to install a 160 to see if it stays at 180....

That is not how you fix that problem.

What radiator/fan setup do you have?

When does it do this? Stopped? Moving?

If it runs cool while moving but heats up at idle, then you have a fan issue.
If it runs hot all the time or just when moving you have a radiator issue.

my car runs at about 195 with a 180 in it also. my car has the stock fan with a heavy duty clutch and the ford heavy duty cooling radiator....i think its a 2 core

edit: mine warms up to 195 and never gets much hotter unless im on the highway for a long time and its really hot outside but than it only gets to about 200 or 205

If you are going to change to a different T-stat make sure you guys get a good quality one, like a Mr. Gasket. I went with an AutoZone no name t-stat, last a whole 3 months :notnice:. Avoid the problems by spending a little more now and saving a whole lot later. Damn Mr. Gasket should pay me.

Curse, you and me both. I run several of them. I had a new parts store 180 and in the same week I swapped in a 180 Mr G and in the same ambient temps, the 'average' operating temps dropped almost 10*F (the Mr G being balanced is the key there).

Good stuff and for what, like 3 bucks more than a parts store stat, you cant beat it.

If that car is heating up on the highways, check to see if the radiator air deflector under the car is still intact. I had similar issue and couldn't understand what was wrong, major cooling issues every summer. I realized I didn't have the deflector down there. Popped a new one in from 50resto.com, all cooling issues have been resolved.
