Lower manifold gasket, im guessing the rear end seal, due to a pressurized pcv system. So im in the middle of changing it out and the problems dont stop. First the egr tube broke, so i got a block off plate for that but im not sure how to cap it off at the header. Next i pull the cap off the dist. and it is toast, so's the rotor. Then i pull off the upper manifold and there are puddles of oil in there, kinda deep. Then i pull off the lower, and the bolts are more than toast, some are so stretched and look like exhast bolts. Its a serious mess in there. Can i get these bolts from napa or autozone in a set? or should jegs have them because i can run down to jegs real quick and get some. Pics up in a couple minnutes.

Check out the end seal, and the oil on the other side of it.. shouldnt be there

The bolts look bad ... and ... here are a few of the reasons :D

Some of them pass through water which can get messy :(

If you got Aluminum heads ... You got that dissimilar metal thing
going on with the Aluminum head bolt threads and the steel intake
bolt threads. Anti seize lube is the fix for that btw ;)

You can get all kinds of things going on that will and can damage
those lower intake bolt threads :bang:

I would get a tap and clean out all those head bolt holes :nice:

I'd also get some nice grade 8 replacement bolts and lube them
them up with something appropriate when going back
together with it all.

I've been using a sure fire way of sealing up the China wall surface
for years but ... since it has nothing to do with the main stream
method of a single bead of rtv use ... I'll just say my method was
necessary because ... I'm so dad gum old ... they did not have
RTV when I was cutting my teeth on SBF's :rlaugh:

Good Luck with your intake project :D

So grady what do u use to seal up the valley. I leak from front and rear..unfortunately I let it go on too long and now I think the clutch is soaked..cuz it isnt engaging as posetively as it used to. THen again the pp may be worn out...its 4+ yrs old now. But either was I need a good solution to seal that intake up!

This might draw some attention as it is quite different :)
but
I have no reason to lie and it has worked great for years now :D

How about I start off with this statement

I prefer to use those cork end seal gaskets most folk throw away

I learned to use weather stripping adhesive like yellow 3M to glue those
gaskets to the china wall

As a high school teenster, I used to use a little dab of non hardening
Permatex in the 4 corners.

Of course, these days I use RTV ;)

Different ... I know
but
I'm not about to do something different :nono:
when
What I've done for years has never caused me any grief or trouble :)

While we are talking about intake gaskets ......
Here is another little tip :D

Be sure if you use those little tabs that can lock on to the hg's ..........
check to see if any of your ports are covered as can often be
the case if you use those little tabs :bang:

If I see that happen :fuss: ... I just cut them off ;)

If you are wondering how I keep the gaskets from slipping down

I use a long section of all-thread on each corner as a gasket keeper
and guide to slide the lower down nice and straight :)

i replaced my lower intake bolts for about $4 go to a local hardware store and get some replacement grade 8 bolts...and you better plug that distributor hole with a rag before something falls into it then you will have problems....
