I was wondering if I would need a spring compressing tool to remove the front and rear springs. I can put the car on a vehicle lift and do it this way, will the springs just pop out by losening the lower control arm on the front?? how would the back work out. Any sugestions??

Search around the forums....there is a real comprehensive write up on here somewhere. I cnat find it right now but its very straight forward and quick with air tools. No lift needed. Floorjack and jackstands will do the job. Note that the font spring can retain substaintial kinetic energy...so be very careful when lowering the control arms. Rears will just drop out after shocks are removed. Good luck

Yes you do need to use a spring compressor. It's a very easy job though. You may or may not need the spring compressor for the rear, I can't remember off the top of my head. I think the rears might have just come out without it.

I have done two sets with a "rigged" spring compressor, and my last set of H & R this past December without one. Waaaay easier without one. I'll update with the article once I get home, about an hour. Dropping the inside of the A-arm method is night and day compared to compressing and unbolting the ball joint.

I just changed my rear arms last night. I did need a spring compressor even after dropping the rear shocks....(my springs are stock though)

The fronts are compressed more than the rears, so be careful...I got hit in the stomach once, and I had a huge bruise for weeks.

Read this tech article then decide on the method you feel safe using, www.mustangmotorsport.com/springs.html. The first time, removing the stock springs IS the hardest, those bastards are about two feet tall. I will never use a compressor again after performing this method. I hope you are installing H & R or Eibach for a street car quality ride.

Best of luck,
vann

The rear is easy if you put it on jackstands (like on the torque box area), put a floor jack on the pumpkin, unbolt both shocks and quad shocks. Then youll need another jack...i think i used a scissor jack...and you jack up one side of the axle and the other spring will just fall out basically, then put in the new....and let the jack down and move to the other side.

for the fronts i needed a compressor to get them back in...it sucked. Next time i will try unbolting the A-arm

Anybody have suggestions for lowering springs? I want to drop the front about 1.5" and the rear .5" but most of the springs I look at don't have that kind of drop. Either that or they don't specify what the drop is for front and rear.

the FMS B springs i got were supposed to be about that, but instead they barely lowered the back and really lowered the front lol. I adjusted it all a little and its better now. I still needed C/C plates

For a daily driver street car, I reccomend H & R sport or super sport. I've had, on the same car (91 LX), Ford "b", "c", Yamex (sp), and finally H & R sport. They provide a great ride (with bilstein) and all the perofrmance most street cars need.
