LS1 Dyno Request

i dont really think there is a good comparison stock vs stock ls1 vs 5.0l. thats comparing apples to oranges. the ls1 has way newer technology and a huge cubic inch advantage as well as aluminum heads stock. just think if ford made the 5.0l with gt-40 aluminum heads off the showroom floor. and also had the 40 something cubes that the ls1 has. that would be a much better comparison. the biggest weakness a 5.0 has against it is the smog and very restricted heads. something the ls1 engines are known for having are good flowing heads. i think the mod engines would be way better if they had more cubes.

I think we all can complain about the power units Ford has been using but at the end of the day, Ford got the job done and GM didnt. The mustang is alive and the firebird is 5years in the grave, and the camaro is still "in the works".

Let Ford do more to satisfy "us" (which is probably less than 5% of total mustang sales) and i bet they take a big hit in sales.

We say it all the time when designing a motor combination......its all in how everything works together! Yea GM's engine department has been "better" than fords.....but the overall package to the "general public" has always been on Ford's side. Its a game of balancing....and from ford's success and Gm's failure, i say Ford knows what they are doing.

All good points Nate :nice:

No doubt about the GM f body doesn't come out of the factory
and
It doesn't hold up

As well as our cars

I got a nephew who had a Camaro with the LS1 and I drove it a while
back. It was not two years old at the time.

It had more rattles & squeaks than a Fox

the f body also cant handle the amount of power that our cars can either. its a really week setup if you ask me. i like the ls1 engine but cant stand anything about the late model f body at all. everything from looks, feel, ride quality everything about it. i dont like the way they sit at all. i knew a guy that had an lt1 z28 and it was quick but terrible ride and rattles and squeeks like mentioned before. i have a cousin that had a ls1 z28 that was even faster but again the ride sucks more than anything. i got to drive the ls1 and it felt really strong but i couldnt buy one just because of the way the seats were how low you sit.

Other than the stock 10 bolt, There isnt much to cry about. The actual suspension is a much better design with the double a-arm up front etc. T-56 anyone? Better brakes? Ever look into what frame ties look like on an f-body vs. a flexy stang?

The thing that I don't get with any enthusiast board is that people will find fault in trivial stuff, but will NEVER EVER EVER admit to a car being a better platform or having any advantage esp when its a rival.

FWIW I've never driven ANYTHING, and I mean anything as rickety as a fox-body stang. Some cars arent sprung to ride like a caddy, they perform a little better out of the box. I mean, the way you argue, I can sit and pit my old DSM against an LS1 and start giving reasons like door trim and seating. This was a discussion on an engine vs. an engine. But I've seen fast examples of anything. Saying can't handle the power sound like I'm browsing a forum filled with single minded 16yr olds

Why do you want to talk about him being single minded? The only thing you have done is talk about how the ls1 and f-bodys are better than the mustang. Please tell me if the f-bodys were so great why did they stop making them?

Yeah this is a ford sight i would expect people to be bias to the stang. I am one of them. But it sounds like to me you are bias of the f-body. idk

But i give credit where credit is due to the ls1 it is great motor. GM has done a great job with it.

I agree completely here.

The 3:1 ratio comes to mind;)

I could understand if he didnt own a mustang....but he does. So he cant be THAT biased:shrug:

Why the f-body was cancelled has nothing to do with our small segment. Our small segment doesnt make the mustang sale more! Its the people who like the styling, the affordability and the "name" that buy the v6 cars and even some GT's "just because".

Sales. Mustang has always sold more cars. It's not rocketscience you know...

How many v6 cars do you see running around? Exactly.

I'm just calling a spade a spade.

Just because Ford sales more cars doesnt necessarily prove either car is better for OUR segment. It just proves to the general person going to the Ford dealership, Ford did a better job at satisfying all their needs.

Lets keep it at a motor vs. motor argument because we can go all day nick-picking each car apart. Take a stang, throw some "nice" wheels on it, a hood, maybe even a body kit, and at the end of the day its still a mustang. I cant drive ANYWHERE without seeing a mustang. Now they may not be as modded or look stock compared to my old mustang. But its still a mustang. Now a WS6 on the other hands is a beast that u hardly ever see IMO that has styling that will never go out of "style".

I drove a 00 Trans Am vert.....and i have plenty of buddies who have Fox's......the trans am was NO WHERE NEAR the squeeks and rattles as the foxs. Not even close. Now i imagine a T-top car would be atleast as good as the vert. And i bet a vert Fox would be even worse than the hatchback or notch. And my sn95 wasnt any better outside of wind noise (from any vert, even the 06 stang vert has wind noise) then that trans am on "rattles".

Look at the main things. How the car looks. The cars drive train. We have weak T-5's stock.....Fbody's have a weak rear end. BIG DEAL. All the small stuff.....interior for example is going to vary. Because to me, there isnt much IMO that a 94-95 stang does for me to win me over from the looks of the WS6.....and thats SOLELY the looks of the TA. But thats me.

IMO, there will never be a "perfect" car for our segment, the perfect car to ME, will cost too much money....knocking a large portion of this segment out of the runnings. Insert an 03-04 cobra. Not many of us can afford it....and those that can cant afford insurance

So yea.........

Where those graphs at man!? :p

Hmm, and GM did not offer the 3.4L and newer 3.8 (3800 series) engines either in their F-bodies;)

As the mustang is still being produced, you are going to see a higher public ratio as well. The ratio is even higher than 3:1 now, because of the last few years "layoff" of the F-body cars.

I was more-less stating that I'm sure a huge amount of the populous purchased V-6 cars. The 'higher end' cars never seem to move as well.

Mustangs outsold the f-body near 3:1 in 1999. I was just stating think of how many v6 you see everywhere, they weren't just sold as 'hotrods' or what have you. The fact there are v6 f-bodies are regaurdless, but like I was trying to imply, you will still see more of them then the v8 counterparts. ;)

Are you familiar with the O'Jay's musical group?

Ever watched The Apprentice?

Listen to the theme song and you will figure out why the cheaper v6's sell more so:)
