For the price difference why not just add a KB to your stang and more than make up for the power difference while staying nearly 500lbs lighter.
350hp (crank), 3770lbs curb weight.
1/4 mile in mid-high 13's.
Skidpad 0.81g (on stock 245's all around)
Basically a heavy car with a big engine. Like any LS1 powered car they respond well to mods and have plenty of power potential.

I've started an LS1 chain reaction!!
I love the GTO's. They are probably the most comfortable sports car I have ever rode in. They are a heavy car, but they still run hard. As others have said, they respond well to mods. My Trans Am has a small-ish cam, LS6 intake, and Long tubes. I'm fairly certain that my Trans Am on motor, would outrun my old black 02 on nitrous.
Want something newer and faster with lower mileage that's a more comfortable car over all with a much nicer interior? What's the matter.....no love for an S197?
OT Nightfire are you in the DFW area? I think you told me once, but I forgot. PM me if it is better for you.
Nope, Im in El Paso....the ****hole of Texas
Oh believe me, they are at the top of my list.
The LS2 goats are near my price limit, S197's are beyond at this point. Im looking at around $13K (or so) for a limit. I've seen a few S197's for around that but the mileage on them was insane (really don't want anything over 100K). I do NOT want a car payment so the car would be paid off. As far as the original topic goes, Im steering away from LS1 GTO's. My bolt-on 2V is quicker and, as far as I'm concerned, looks a lot better.
Stock 6-speed LS1 GTO's are mid-13's second cars. His bolt on 2V GT should easily run those same numbers, or better.Your car might be quicker stop light to stop light, But a 6 speed LS1 GTO with a good driver would walk your car at the race track.
Yup, did a search....because I kinda figured that would be your response. My findings have shown bone stock LS1 GTO's for the most part are mid-13-second cars (some slower than that). The GTO owners on the various sites themselves are owning up to this. A handful of record holders are running low-13's, sure but it's certainly not common and many are not 100% factory stock....they've only got to meet "Stock Class" rules. His car on a perfect night might run a mid 13. It's an automatic with a stock converter. Do a search on LS1GTO.com and there are people running 13.0-13.2 in bone stock M6 LS1 GTO's.
