Is there anyone who can give me a good education on these cars? I've been looking solely for LS2's, but the ones with decent mileage are out of my price range (I dont want to spend all available funds on the car, I would like to mod it afterwards).

I've always been under the impression that te LS1 goats were dogs. Hell, I've pulled 2 of them in my GT (I am wanting to think that they were bone stock with ty drivers). How well do stock LS1 GTO's perform? How do they run with bolt-ons? Cam? Etc.

I am entertaining the thought of switching over to the LS1 GTO because they are newer and seem to be a lot more refined than my 02 (especially interior-wise).

350hp (crank), 3770lbs curb weight.
1/4 mile in mid-high 13's.
Skidpad 0.81g (on stock 245's all around)

Basically a heavy car with a big engine. Like any LS1 powered car they respond well to mods and have plenty of power potential.

For the price difference why not just add a KB to your stang and more than make up for the power difference while staying nearly 500lbs lighter.

I've started an LS1 chain reaction!!

I love the GTO's. They are probably the most comfortable sports car I have ever rode in. They are a heavy car, but they still run hard. As others have said, they respond well to mods. My Trans Am has a small-ish cam, LS6 intake, and Long tubes. I'm fairly certain that my Trans Am on motor, would outrun my old black 02 on nitrous.

Keep the 2v! Imo a modded 2v that gives Chevy owners something to think second about would be great to own.

To be honest im not much of a GM car guy (love chevy trucks) but if I had to decide between a 2 valve and a goat it would be hard not to jump on the goat (especially if it was a ls2)

I'm just weighing out all my options. I just love the interiors on the GTO's, so much more comfortable than my car.

Seems he is looking for something with less miles, newer, and a little more comfort. Adding a blower to his current ride wouldn't fix any of those issues.

I just can't stand the styling of the GTO. Looks like a grand prix from the 80's to me. The motor and interior are nice though.

Holy crap dude, I just looked at your sig. Out of the 'Stang game all together?! Nice collection you got though..

A buddy of mine had a basic bolt on auto LS1 GTO. Nice cars, as stated respond like any other LS1. Once you start getting into the engine, doesn't really make a difference until you get into larger displacement. The LS motors are silly when it comes to interchanging parts. Anyway, buddy's near stock GTO was a pretty even match for my bolt on GT (off spray).

I'd personally look for an LS2 car.. more potential out of the box if you aren't planning any big mods. Look better too.

Oh believe me, they are at the top of my list.

The LS2 goats are near my price limit, S197's are beyond at this point. Im looking at around $13K (or so) for a limit. I've seen a few S197's for around that but the mileage on them was insane (really don't want anything over 100K). I do NOT want a car payment so the car would be paid off. As far as the original topic goes, Im steering away from LS1 GTO's. My bolt-on 2V is quicker and, as far as I'm concerned, looks a lot better.

No there are worse areas out there lol. At least you are in a semi metro area. So is the yellow GT leaving the garage for the new car I'd guess?

Your car might be quicker stop light to stop light, But a 6 speed LS1 GTO with a good driver would walk your car at the race track.

Stock 6-speed LS1 GTO's are mid-13's second cars. His bolt on 2V GT should easily run those same numbers, or better.

His car on a perfect night might run a mid 13. It's an automatic with a stock converter. Do a search on LS1GTO.com and there are people running 13.0-13.2 in bone stock M6 LS1 GTO's.

Oh yeah? Well I ran a 13.0, in my bolt on NPI....and I have like 50 buddies who run 2vs. And they all run 11s. In perfect conditions....with good drivers...on the internet.....oh wait...

Yup, did a search....because I kinda figured that would be your response. My findings have shown bone stock LS1 GTO's for the most part are mid-13-second cars (some slower than that). The GTO owners on the various sites themselves are owning up to this. A handful of record holders are running low-13's, sure but it's certainly not common and many are not 100% factory stock....they've only got to meet "Stock Class" rules.

http://ls1tech.com/forums/pontiac-gto-2004-2006/882749-gto-stock-1-4-mile-times.html

As for 2V GT's, I've heard/seen more than a few stock converter auto's run 13.8-14.0 with little, to no additional bolt ons. Considering his list of mods (and most importantly 4.10 gears)....matching the GTO's performance shouldn't be a tough feat. Hell, the guy said it himself he's already handed it to two of them. There are lots of bolt on guys here running mid/low-13's to back that one.

The two cars are going to be close enough in performance that definitively calling one the victor over the other is going to prove inconsistent at best. And doing it over the internet is just plain silly. This isn't going to turn into another "The LS1 was touched by the hand of God" thread, is it?
