A while back I bought a 9" rear from a friend who was parting out his early 70s f100. It has a 5 on 5.5" (roughly) lug pattern. My car is running a 5 on 4.5" (ruoghly) lug pattern. I am going to be changing the length of the axle to fit under my car, I will have to buy aftermarket axles to fit the narrower housing. Is there anything benificial to the larger pattern?? If so, how tough would it be to convert to the larger pattern on the front??

You will need new axles if u want to use any aftermarket rims. that 5.5" pattern won't be able to bolt up to most (all) aftermarket mustang rims becuase its a different spacing. Getting new axles with the 4.5" spacing is probably necessary.

nothing beneficial and to run any ford rims you would need an adapter. When you swap the rear axles, just makes sure they have a 5x4.5" lug pattern

hell as long as you are narrowing and getting new axles swap on the big bearing ends and get the Explorer rear discs. they all run 5x4.5

thanks for the replies, I was not sure if there was a benifiet for the larger pattern. I didn't remember about the explorer brakes, thanks for that.
