M-2300-K '94 - '95 Suspension?

Okay, so i just installed the M-2300-k brake kit on my 1991 Fox just before i put it away for the winter. Well whn i got 2 people in the car my front rubs when i hit dips on the road. I thought by maybe putting in new KYB GR-2 shocks and struts would help if not fix the problem. Im running my stock struts and shocks right now. But i was looking online and i found a post about the M-2300-K brake kit and this problem with struts. Becuase i installed '94 - '95 spindles on my car...does that mean i would need the '94 - '95 struts? WOuld they even fit? Do the '94 - '95 shocks fit? Because when i look up struts and shocks they either say from '87 - '93 or '94- '98. PLEASE HELP!

from what i understand, the new ones will bolt in but just limit suspension travel. a fox style strut will bolt on to the sn95 spindle with no problem though.

what wheel/tire combo are you running and where is it rubbing? that seems to be the most common problem people have, theyre running too big of a tire/wheel in the front.

Up front im running 18's with 245's. And its lowered with Eibach springs with BBK camber/caster plates. But my neighbor has the same set up and his doesn't rub. Hes got KYB GR-2 Struts. I copyed his tire wheel suspension setup ha. So what would happen if i put on the 94 -95 struts and shocks? anything

You want the 87-93 struts in there.

But your wheels and low springs are the problem

I just called around and they say that the '94 - '95 struts and shocks are taller then the 87 -93 struts and shocks. They won't raise the height of the vehicle they just wont let the car go down as low. They claim they fit just fine. I guess it makes sense though. You put in 94 spindles you should have the 94 struts. Ya know? Im gonna go buy some KYB GR-2 Struts and shocks and see how it works! I think it'll stop my rubbing problems. If not, atleast i got new shocks rather then my old stock worn out ones too.

Well whoever you called is wrong.

The body of the 94+ struts is taller than the fox struts. As a result, there is less travel. That means they are more likely to bottom out. When you put SN95 spindles on a fox, you reduce strut travel a little bit as well. Combine that with a shorter travel SN95 strut and you have very little strut travel before bottoming the strut out.

It's very common for SN95 guys who lower their cars using Fox struts to gain that extra inch of travel.

So like what was said before, you want 87-93 struts on a lowered fox with Sn95 spindles

I'm running Bullitt struts (94+) with 94-95 spindles. No problems.

I don't know. It just makes sense though, You have '94 spindles. Which are a different design as the stock. So you would think you'd want the 94 struts. I think that will stop my rubbing problems.

it makes sense if the car was a 94+

The 94+ spindle raises the mounting point of the stut higher.

Let's say a Fox strut at normal ride height has 8 inches of travel. That means the peice that slides into the strut body is sticking 8" out and the suspension needs to travel 8 to bottom the strut out.

Now, now other mods but you swap some SN95 spindles on. The spindles raise the mounting point of the strut pushing more of the shaft into the strut. Now, instead of 8" sticking out, you have only 7" sticking out. That means you now have 1" less of travel before you bottom that strut out.

Now, Sn95 struts have a larger body, so less of the shaft sticks out at normal ride height. Now take a stock fox and swap to Sn95 struts and you've gone from 8" sticking out to 7" sticking out with no other mods. NOW, toss in SN95 spindles which raise the mounting point and you've reduced it to 6" sticking out. That means less travel and less distace the A-arm needs to travel to bottom the strut out and get a nice big "Whack" as you bottom out over the bump.

Either way, struts aren't going to affect the wheel running on the A-arms or inner fender well anyway. Your wheels are huge and that pro-kit is notorious for lowering the car pretty far. You are prob rubbing on the inner fender liner when you turn the wheel. You haven't mentioned your wheel offset and backspacing numbers.

The struts are not your problem, but you still want 87-93 struts anyway

But you also have bullitt springs. That's an matched combo right there and doesn't lower the car as far as an Eibach pro-kit does. Not as much risk of bottoming out the strut. Plus you get a little extra bit of travel due to the extra adjusment of the C/C plates

True the bullitt springs didn't lower it too much. If I had to do it over again actually i'd probably get coil-overs or at least lower springs. The M-5400-A is a pretty budget and decent kit though.

When i hit a big dip in the road my front tires rub the fender lip. The 94 spindles raise the mount on the strut? I thought they lowered the mounting point of the strut.

Okay, when comparing pictures. I think that the 91 strut bolt mounts are higher then the 94 spindle strut bolt mounts. Atleast it looks that way in pictures. SO when you hit a dip the stock strut on the 94 spindles allows the car to go down farther then it should go down. I mean my car should not be able to go all they way down and rub my tires. Because my tires are no taller then my pony rims were. I did the tire and rim height the same so my speedo would be correct. So rim size has nothing to do with it. Im pretty sure that when i switched to the 94 spindles my stock struts are allowing my car to go down father then normal because the 94 spindles are lower causing it to rub. If i put the 94 struts on, they would stop the car before it went down that far. ya know?

all of these are very good points, the rims and tires with the springs combo are what i would look at first. even the sidewall of the tire. some different tire makers use a different sidewall construction as well. like the dif between nitto 315 and bfg dr's 315, one can fit the other needs mod to the wheel well in the back to fit all due to the sidewall construction. also, you need to take into account the side wall size. if you got a huge sidewall like 50 youre most likely to rub anyways with lowering springs. as you mensioned before you copied your neighbors combo. take a look at his tires and see what hes got, and see what the cc setting are, he may a little more camber in the geomerty.

last but not least, take koni for example on the fitment for the front struts. they use te same part for the fox and sn95 cars. maximum motorsport has the same part number for 79-04 to be used. i have them on my car with the stock springs and stock spindles, but i am going to be changing to the five lug with 94-95 spindles up front and 04 d.p. pbr's. will post on the fitment, but to all my reading and research, i know it should be great fit with the coil-overs on the koni's and 17x9s with michelin 245/40/17 pilot sports. gl on the rest of the fitment, but your main issue lies in your rims, tire and alignment imo. - james

Im running 245/40's. My neighbor has 265/40's which are even taller. Hes got KYB GR-2 87 -93 struts and shocks and he still gets a little rubbing in dips. Although my struts and shocks are orginal and shot too. So any new shocks and struts would help me. But i think that my stock struts with the different mounting points because of the 94 spindles are allowing my struts to go down to far. If i put the 94's on i think they wouldn't allow my car to move down that far.

you mean wider...lol

old struts will make the rubbing more prevelent, i went with the koni's and have never looked back. the valving is great. even with my old school turbines, and huge truck tires, i could notice a difference in the twistys. the ride was just a lil more harsh, but i could feel the road in the steering a whole bunch better. im a road racer at heart, so handling is what i want. 275 are in order for the front meats this summer. and if you are looking for something comp., take a look at having truchoice rebuild your struts when those get older. i think its like 155 for a rebuild, and even at that they can spec out the valving for an even better feel. they do alot of scca spec struts, and such.

Yeah thats what i ment ha. I think i might just go ahead and buy the 94 KYB GR-2 Struts and shocks and if it doens't work just resell them on ebay or something.

i've heard the kyb's are good replacements so that would help. i just looked at the car domain and there isnt much clearance to begin with. those struts might help, but it may be a lil more than just that. but that stance is kickin!!!!!!
