M.A. Inspection Sticker

last year i got hooked up with a sticker, the car was not inspected. it was the first year i owned the car. does anyone know, do they automaticly do emissions the first year and alternate every other year after that, or dose it depend on the year. i dont know if i was supposed to have emissions done so i dont know if i need it this year. its a 1987

IS THERE ANYONE IN THE WESTERN MASS AREA THAT CAN "INSPECT" MY CAR :flag: this is still america isnt it

The rule use to have to do with the year of the car but they changed that.

Now my understanding is as long as nothing changes (same owner and registration etc), you will be emissions tested every other year. If you didn't have it done last year you will need to have it done this year and vice-versa. There may be more complex rules in there that would change things (such as you have been caught removing emission equipment, gross polluter, cheating, etc), but basically that is the idea.

I used to take my stang off the road in the winter and re-register in the spring. Every time inspection came up, my car would be flagged to need an emissions test. If stunk and to me was definitely not fair but there was nothing I could do.

The registry knows when the last time your car was emissions tested, and the inspection station's test equipment is linked to the registry. Since you are a "new" owner of the vehicle, you will show up as needing an emissions test.

thanks that helps, im pretty sure im gonna need it this month. but what i wonder is: if i keep getting hooked up every year, say i go 4 years without emissions, can i get away with it? i have no cats, and every peice of emissions equipment deleted.
it was all taken off before i bought the car.
has anyone ever passed with just cats and no smog pump???????????????????????
i have a small cam too, 480 lift :(
im moving out of this state :nonono:

Let me clarify this once and for all:

You say you got "hooked up" for a sticker last year which was when you first registered the car, correct? If that is so, than the sticker should say "ES" under the calander month number on the face of the sticker. This stands for "emissions and safty". This year all you should need is a saftey inspection. When you get your new sticker there will just be an "S" under the month number. Basically the first inspection of a newly registered car automatically gets emmissions testing and thats that. You should be in the clear for one more year.

under the calender month is my vin, below that is a upc for a scanner.top left is the exp date, on the top right side of the sticker is what apears to be a 5 but could very well be a "S" not "ES". but it looks more like a 5 to me.with my luck it is an "s". how could someone inspect the car for the first time and skip emissions?
it was done at a ford dealer.he just pulled it in, parked it sideways on the rollers and slapped a sticker on it. never even looked at the car. wouldnt the registry know that they never tested it, if it only has an "s" on it?
i gotta go talk to a garage just to ask questions.then go somewhere else for the inspection.
i gotta find out if that kid still works at that place and have him do it again.

S most likely is just safety so you should need emissions this year. Not sure what .480 of lift has anything to do with emissions, its the amount overlap and duration along with condition of motor that dictates the emissions. If this is a B303 you are not going to pass emissions and no one cares that you bought the car this way. Better start buying emissions parts or find someone to hook you up again.

I work at a shop and all I do is inspections- all day everyday. There is a way to bypass emissions but barely anybody knows about it. So if you wanna drive out to eastern mass to my shop, I'll put a sticker on it. Otherwise your gonna have to find somebody that knows how to do it.
