M/T Drag Radial Fitment Question

Will a 275/60R15 (28" OD X 8.9" x 15" wide) Mickey Thompson Drag Radial fit under a 68 Mustang with rolled fender lips? Has anyone used them in high HP car? What do you think of them and how long did they last? Currently running 26" x 9" x 15" Hoosier QT Pro's.

Those things ROCK!!!!!!!!

My buddy used them on his 69 mach one with a heavily worked 351. 1.7-1.8 60 foots aint bad at all considering he still spun them a little and had 30 psi in them lol

They should fit fine. Check Dodgestang's tire fitment webpage to be sure.

Thanks for the info.......That brings up a drag radial question. Can or do you air them down at the track to get better traction and sidewall wrinkle like the old bias plys slicks?

most drag radials "like" to be aired down for optimum traction.I have heard of people running them with 30+psi,but I heard they hood like crazy with about 15-20psi.

he brought them down on the street once to 15 and he dead hooked, it was awsome, yes they do wrinkle a little bit, but these are by no mean "wrinkle wall slicks"

also they dont last long lol, they are by far the stickiest compound D?R out right now, BFG's would have a longer drive life for sure.IF thats what your worried about

I have seen a mid 12 sec car wrinkle a set of Nittos from the 6 o'clock position to the 3:30 mark. Car had ladder bar suspension though.

A couple of my buddies just switched from ET streets to the MT drag radials and they swear by them. One of the guys is running 11.10's on them in a Nitroused 69 Mach 1 and the other guys runs 12 flat in a big ole 70 Cougar.

Not sure about the size question but I know they are both running that size tire on 15's with no issues and stock width rear ends.

PS - 15 to 20 PSI is what I hear and they both have them screwed in because they will spin on the rim with low PSI and your balance will be hosed up.......

Thanks for all the input! As luck would have it a guy showed up with a late model Mustang with brand new M/T drag radials with the exact size I was looking for. His car ran 7.20's and hooked once he burned the new off of them and aired them down to 15 psi. He than sprayed and ran 6.70's, but spun off the line. (expected) He did not think a 28" tire would fit under my car because of how much my car squats on launch. (I've never seen this.) He said the biggest benefit was the car tracked straight down the track which it did not on bias ply slicks. That sold me!

yesterday i bought a set of 275/50 m/t's for my '68. i got the 50 series because i know they will fit and for some reason the 275/50's have an inch more tread than the 275/60's.

Are they drag radials and did you mount them yet? Any chance you could take some pictures so I can see the clearance? I know that I had to roll the fender lips to accommodate my current tires which are only 26" tall.

yes, they're drag radials. i'm getting them mounted in a day or two. i'll post pics in this thread.

Yeah, for some reason taller tires are like that. The et streets the I have run, the 26's have a wider patch than the 28's. Huey, a 28 will fit. Mine would not rub at all if, I didn't weigh 260 lbs, and my car sat right, AND if my rim wasn't too wide for the tire. It causes a big bulge in the side wall. But the other side doesn't rub at all. And I am positive that our cars will fit it. I wouldn't worry about the slick being scary at all. The only time mine got scary was at 9psi....10-11 is just fine for me. I would just like to remind you dude. Our cars do not hook like a late model anything. It may take a better tire for us, just to keep up with their drag radial. :damnit:

Thanks! I see that you are in OHIO have you ever run in the Ford Expo at the National Trails Raceway outside of Columbus? I ran there last year and plan on going back again this year.

Thanks for the info! Do you screw your tires to the rim running that low of pressure? At 14.5 psi mine will just start to spin on the rim. I do not want drill my classic rims if I can help it.

I only went to 9psi once. I never had a problem with them turning on the motor. I usualy ran 14 like you. But when the bottle came out I turned them quite a bit with a 1.52 60. Now they are screwed. I have heard of an alternative that you may really want to look into. I only heard of them. They are little spikes that are welded to the inside of the rim's lip. Once the beads are seated, the spikes dig into the bead.
