My friend wants to get new ones and he says he'll sell me his chrome MAC equal length headers for 100$ and he'll put them in for me (i have stock headers). Is it worth it? He says its a little discolored but its not too blue.....(as the chrome tends to get from the heat.....plus i heard i can polish the headers back to chrome with some Mothers Polish.....How much HP will i gain? on my farely stock engine? Will it make my exhaust any louder? thanks for your help~!!

Not really a bad deal but maby you can talk him down some. I mean that's what he is asking but I am sure he will come down. I'm asking $100 for some BBK 1 5/8ths unequal shorties, but I would take less. (hint, hint) What do they cost new? I am a long tube man myself. Longtubes are equal length but don't bunch the metal up in such a small spot making spark plugs hard to check/change and burns up wires if you don't have them just right.

How is it not worth $100 for headers and 3-5 hours of your time with the install (providing he does a good job)?

i run BBK equal ceramic shorties on mine no discoloration there!

regardless which headers you use, get some stage 8 header bolts to save u the hassle of retorqing bolts or dealing with loose bolts

Get some copper gaskets for them whatever you do. You have to retorque them more often but they are well worth it. I had my header bolts come loose
and it started to leak, I was I thought I was going to have to do yet another Longtube R&R and since coppers didn't work I didn't know what to do, I tightened the bolts and leak went away. Regular paper gaskets won't do that, once they go they go. You can reuse the coppers if you need to take them off, unless you change something header or head related, or you smoosh them too much.

Lol, I like the Longtubes. I got the shorties as an unplanned trade for my stock hood. I didn't need them but it was all the guy had to give me for selling my stocker. Anyways, I'm just looking to get something for them because the Foxbody Fund gets low more times than not.

I wouldn't install any headers on a Fox for only $100, nevermind for parts AND labor. They sell for about $200 new, so it's a deal for just the headers. However, while EL shorties are definately better for performance than reguler shorties, the afformentioned problems are worth thinking about. It is very important that he be a competent tech, as there is a lot of periphrial stuff that can get screwed up while installing headers if you aren't very conscientious and carefull. And it does require some follow up work, the gaskets are designed to crush as they go through thier first several heat cycles and if they aren't retorqued every day for the first week or so you will have leaks. At that price, I'd go for it myself- it's a deal too good to pass up. Just hope it isn't literally too good to be true...

You can get them here: http://www.stage8.com/

A full exhaust should give you 15-25 HP over a full stock one, depending on the rest of your combo. Individual results may vary, but if you take off the whole stock setup and add a full 2.5" one with headers, low backpressure muffs and an offroad pipe, you should at least feel a difference and you won't feel less than 15 in the seat. However, this is assuming you have at least the basic bolt ons already- on a bone stock 5.0 you may actually lose some low end and not gain anything across the band at all.
