Howdy all! First time post, but have been reading/lurking a LOT. I've learned a TON so far, and I thank you all for that.

On to the topic: Are MAC mufflers louder than stock GT (rolled tips on my alloy 07) mufflers? Listening to the Brenspeed site's sound clips, they sound deeper, which is what I want, but I also want to be just a little louder than stock. Thoughts?

Yeah, they're much louder. I have them, and I'm thinking of changing to the Borlas. Not to scare you off or anything, it's just a personal choice. I think the 4" tips are a bit too big for the look I'm going for. Also, the drone can be pretty bad, but I actually kinda like that sometimes. They sound great though, especially if you add a direct-fit prochamber that keeps your stock cats.

Thanks!
What difference did the pro chamber have on the sound?

Dock..

How loud do you want to go ??

Here is my experience with them :

Axle Back / Sound level (over stock)/ Drone

Basani / Mid-High / Very little

Boom Tube / High / 2500 RPM ++ Freeway

Borla (Stinger) / Mid/High / Virtually None - Very good setup

Corsa / Mid / High / Some small drone on freeway

Flowmaster / Mid/Low / Quiet, but great exit sound.. Very little drone

FRPP 5GT / Mid/High / Excellent Sound, Very little drone

JBA / Mid / (Not Known)

MAC / Mid / Very little - Great Deep exhaust note.

PYPES Violators / High - VERY HIGH / Virtually no drone, Extremely LOUD.. Loudest you can get without straight through or SLP's..

SLP Loudmouth / VERY HIGH / Some Rasp and drone low/mid RPMS..

Thanks for the well worded replies!
I want to be a little louder than stock, and hope to idle out of the Sub in the mornings, so as not to wake the neighbors.

Sounds like MAC is my best first try. I like the sound of the Pypes mid muffler set-up in the other thread, but am leary of the mufflers near the fuel tanks for some silly reason. Not like an M-80 muffler will be any hotter than a plain pipe... for all I know.

The general consensus is with axlebacks, go H-pipe. The X-pipe + axleback sound just isn't what you think of when you think Mustang.

Dock,
I have MAC axleback on my 07 GT. They are definetly louder. Very deep tone. Personally, haven't found what i really want. The MACare fairly loud inside at cruising with some drone. They do sound very good at idle standing behind car. Don't get Magnaflow, i have a set, not much different than stock, i may sell mine. I may try the O?R H pipe with either the Magnaflows or stock. Afraid i would wake up neighbors with this and MACs.

Running off road mid-pipes, on the S-197 are well known for sounding both raspy and tinny..In addition, they've also been known for trumpeting as well.. Therefore, unless you intend on installing resonators, or running a high-flow catted pipe ? it won't make any difference, regardless of whether you use stock, or aftermarket axle backs !

The reason why they sound different, on the S-197 ? is because of the new 3 valve, variable cam design..

The Borla Stingers have a drone from 1950-2100 RPM. And not a little drone. It's LOUD! But, I don't mind it very much. Sounds sweet though!

I agree. It doesn't sound much like a "Mustang"... I think it sounds a hell of a lot better. More sports carish, if that's a word.....

MACs are installed! Thanks again y'all. They sound nice and deep. None of the popping that you hear in some videos. Can't wait to drive to work in the mornin'!
