I vote Mach. You see Cobras all the time, whether they be SN95, or New Edge, in my area. I only see a couple of Machs a week, and I love them to death when I see them.

Although i've never owned a cobra, i have never heard anyone complain about the cost of maintaining one. If you spent a grand on a set of tires and your complaining about it, then buy cheaper tires. I buy my sumitomos for less than 500$ for all 4.

Maybe you should do your own maintenance instead of bring it to the stealership....

Maybe you should know what you are talking about before you criticize me? Also the thread is about buying Mach vs Cobra not how I maintain my car son.

Get the Mach 1; they are much better looking cars to me, both inside and out. And the SRA certainly is appealing to me. Azure blue (I think that is the color) is absolutely stunning to me. And then go and slap a Termi blower on it and call it a day.

All excellent points guys! I'll agree with most of them as well. I love the Azure Blue Mach 1, I'd have that or a solid black one for sure. The interior seems to be a big one for most of you, and I'll admit I love it. That, along with the functioning shaker hood, I'm really beginning to feel it. As far as parts and cost to repair, unless there is something prone to breaking, I'd say the newer year model Mach would be best. That's what happened with my Cobra. I can't blame the repairs on it being a Cobra, but rather age and mileage had gotten the best of it. Since this won't be a daily driver, I can live with SRA for sure. The IRS and extra hp were the benefits of the Cobra, but it seems the hp difference isn't what I thought it would be. Also, the Mach has a little more torque if I remember correctly, and most of my driving is at lower speeds and I want to feel the punch. My 96 Cobra only made 284/286 hp/tq with some bolt ons, I think the Mach should be near that stock, right? While there truely are no downsides to either I can find, you guys have about sold me on the Mach. As far as being common, I've saw more Mach 1's than Cobras. However, outside of our statewide Mustang club, I've only seen 1 or 2 of each in the last 6 months. Most around here are sporting v6's and GT's, so being different really isn't an issue. I really want a Terminator, but I'm pretty certain that's out of the picture due to cost. That does bring up a good point though. How hard is it to do an Eaton swap onto each? Would it be easier on the Mach or the Cobra? Thank you all for the input, and any more would be excellent!

+1... I rarely ever see Mach's on the road, & the same can be said for 99-01 Cobra's, but I see 03/04 Cobra's all the time.

I vote for the Mach, although I am a bit biased...

Mach 1

Anyone who thinks a Cobra costs more to maintain than a mach 1 is very ignorant and has no clue what they are talking about. It doesn't surprise me one bit on who mentioned that.
A 99/01 Cobra is pretty much the same setup as the Mach 1. Both are 4V motors that are almost identical(except the intakes and cams and a few other minor odds and ends). The Mach make more power due to the intake and cam combo and the curve is different than a 99/01. Yes a 99/01 will put down 270-280 stock where a Mach may hit 275-290 stock. Yes the Mach's solid axle and interior are better imo. I had a 99 Cobra before my 97.

If you pay a thousand bucks for 4 tires you got ripped off!!! Even a 245 or a 275 tire can be had for 500 to 650 bucks for all 4 for a middle of the line tire. The maintenance is easy. Plugs don't get changed until 100k and even they take you 15 minutes. Every other fluid is done at 30k(except coolant iirc) and they are a diy.

I'd personally take the Cobra. I do like Mach 1s but they look too much like GTs with a couple hundred dollars in exterior mods. Plus the IRS is something you've never had before.

Tough call, I guess depending on mileage get which ever one is a better deal but with that being said, I love my Mach, interior still has minimal squeaks and rattles, plus the shaker w/ power dome hood just look badass from every angle, only thing I don't like on the car are the stock wheels (they've grown on me some though) and 4x4 height.

You do not know what you are talking about. You make assumptions about my political beliefs, where I have my car repaired, how I have my car repaired, etc, etc.

Stick to the thread topic son.

Cobra is more mechanically complex and therefore will be more expensive.

Please explain this with facts, not opinions. The 03/04 Mach One and 99/01 Cobra Are very similar cars.
Both cars have
4V motors with damn near identical parts(exception of intake and cams)
5 speed transmissions
Similar brake setups

The only main difference is
The IRS of the 99/01. I am sorry but that is not nearly enough to consider the car mechanically complex.

Neither car is more complex to maintain than the other.
