I have a 2004 GT that has 6500 miles on it. I very happy with the car but now have a chance to get a 2003 mach 1. Can someone please give me the particulars on the 2003 mach 1 as far as the differences between a mach 1 and a GT. BTW, the 2003 mach 1 only has 6000 miles. I've done some searching here on the forums and I think I have a good grasp of the mach 1.

I guess I don't have to ask if I should go with the 03 mach 1 over my current 04 GT :D

Basically it's a bigger engine and limited production. It has a shaker hood (ram air), different exhaust, 3.55 gearing, different suspension, different rims, small interior accents (which you may have on your GT already).

I'd do it!!!
4V

4v motor, functional hood scoop, better seats, 3.55 gears, retro instrument cluster, black hood stripe, side stripes and spoiler. thats all i can think of right now, im sure if i messed something someone will add it :nice:

To add to the list: Brembo brakes 13" in front 11" in rear, Tokico shocks and struts, different springs (lower the car 1/2" over stock GT, Heritage 17" rims, different front and rear sway bars. :flag:

The hood scoop doesn't really do much more than route cooler air to the filter. The intake is pretty much stock GT up to the box where it connects to the tubing that runs to the scoop. If you've looked under the hood you'll know it's impossible to get any real ram air effect. But damn it's fun to rev the engine and watch the hood shake :D

Thanks for the replys. I just got back from test driving and I think I'm going to go with the mach 1. Damn it is nice to hear that v8 rev to over 6k. I'll post when it is parked in my garage.
thanks again.

Why not mod the GT? IMO the GT's look better and can be just as fast for very little money.

A stock Mach was dynoed by Hot Rod magazine. It produced 280 rwhp. That's 333 bhp, not the under-rated 305 bhp advertised by Ford. I've added over $2000 in bolt-on mods (not including labor) onto my GT and I am now up to 260 rwhp. It will take more than a few mods for a GT to beat a Mach I.

Just curious, how much of a premium are you paying for the Mach 1 over your '04 GT? Or is it an even swap?

It was nearly an even swap. The Mach 1 has 6700miles and my 04 GT had 6600 miles (give or take fifty or so). Since the interest rates went up by half a point since I got my 04 my payments went up a few bucks, but other than that...I'm ridin' in a 03 Mach 1 as of 6:30pm last night.

I'm loving this car...the engine feels smoother, the build quality seems better, this is the way I think GT's should be, but the Mach 1 is so much better than my 04 GT was. I didn't think there would be this much difference, but WOW!

That RWHP was most likely on a Mustang dyno.

If they really had 330hp I wouldn't be able to smoke them so easy in my 00 SS.

Most numbers (SAE) for Mach1s are in the low 260s. With my mods I can easily take my friend Daren's Mach1 to 60 and anything after that is a dead heat. He has a MAC H and weld-ins.

News flash!!! Mach 1s can be modded as well. Gears, shifter, tires, exhaust and you'll be rollin. I thought we were comparing GT and Mach. Where'd the SS come from, you always gotta throw that one in there doncha :p

Yeah, and you need to lay off the crack pipe! MOST stock Mach 1's dyno on a DynoJet in the 270-290rwhp range. This is my pretty much stock Mach 1 dyno. With the simple addition of a Magnaflow o/r x-pipe, it jumped to the numbers in my sig.

If that was on a Mustang dyno it would be sick. Mustang dynos give lower rwhp readings than dyno-jets. Most auto Machs are in the 250-260 range on the dyno-jet, but the 5 speeds are 270-280 (and some monsters have pulled 290s).

Well what ever they have, a GT can easily keep up with a little $.

Then again I guess a couple of " smart " people over at Mach1registry also couldn't tell a difference in power when some of them test drove a Cobra.
