Can anyone tell me on a 71 Mach 1, if the side stripes were cleared over or not? In other words, can I do them myself in my garage without clearing them over?

Welcome to Stang net ,i moved you to classic talk . They are vinyl only nothing over the top .you can do them your self .You need a bucket of water and a tea spoon of dish soap and some tape to position your stripe and use as a guide .Tape off where your stripe will go ,your stripe will use the edge of the tape as a straight line and guide .Wet the side of the car with the water soap solution and peel off the protective back of the stripe and place stripe on the door or where ever you start ,using the squeege that usually comes with the stripe kit ,squeege out the water being careful not to let the stripe move .allow it to dry for a couple of hours and remove the outer protective covering .Keeping the area wet before the stripe is pressed down is the key to getting the stripes on with out bubbles .If you do get bubbles ,a sharp needle will pop them and then work out the air ,the tape stripe is self healing on small pin holes .It also helps to have two people to position your new stripes .

It is not really hard to do but you have to keep it straight or your side stripe will wave up and down ,and you need to keep the fender, door and quarter stripe lined up
