I agree with the factory stereo. As I said before I am not an expert on audio equipment as you can see in my avatar. And I also agree that the sound is awesome, But it is getting pretty damn annoying trying to change discs when on a long drive. I dont even put any burned cd's with or without stickers in it due to the fact that at least at the moment I am able to get them out. **** sometimes I gotta listen to the same music over and over cause I dont want to pull over and screw around trying to get the ones in the unit out. But I see that I'm not the only one having problems.

This guy I know that is a audio system freak. He told me last night that I can just put a sub in the back and leave the rest alone. I didn't think you could do it but he said it would work. Not sure how you would have to do it, but all you need is a signal from the head unit to the amp.

So is it possible to just drop in a subwoofer without messing with anything else? I think its incredible as is and get so many compliments on the stock 460 sound, more bass wouldn't hurt though. No way in hell i'm taking out the stock head unit, i think an aftermarket unit just ruins the factory look and makes the interior look even cheaper.

no i dont think its that simple. my buddy just got an 02 gt and wanted to put his 2 primier 12's in and i dont think the stock head unit has the low output or whatever it is to push the subs. and hes even got a 600 amp hooked up and had it professionally installed as well. it duznt hit nearly as hard as the sub and amp did when it was hooked up to a pioneer aftermarket head unit.

My 2001 Mustang and 2002 Explorer have the same head unit. I've had the Explorer head changed out under warranty. The same prohibition concerning adhesive labels applies to the replacement unit. I use a fingernail file to free jammed discs. Basically all you have to do is put a bit of pressure on one side of the jammed disc and the servo will eject the disc.

I really think Ford screwed the pooch on the design of this 6 stacker. The single play CD player in my '98 was a lot better mechanically. I also don't like the fact that they eliminated the Cassette player. I used it almost as much as the CD Player and it was great for audio books on long trips. I know Cassettes are history but it was still nice to have compatibility with my entire music collection instead of half of it.

It's just another case of "crap" electronics they peddle nowdays. Can't use it, can't repair it...now they want us to subscribe to satellite radio. Not me, they can keep it. I'll be damned if I want to pay for commercial free radio now and continue to pay for it five years from now when they've dropped the commercial free aspect of it. Just wait...your XM or Sirius will soon have commercials and the radio provider will claim its only to keep costs down for the consumer. The fact is they want sellers to pay and listeners to pay.

If you wonder why I have such a negative attitude...Sony sold me a piece of crap home theater system for $1400. It quit 14 months later. Bose sold me a crap home theater system for $800 to replace the Sony. It quit in 19 months. Why didn't I get them repaired? Try contacting Sony...they give you the huge runaround, give you to a dozen phone numbers and can't recognize the product models they sell! I didn't try with Bose, I just threw their **** in the trash. I was living fine without them before so I will do without a home theater system now!

Maybe you shouldn't buy crap. Sony and Bose are by no means high end systems. Go to a reputable shop and get something decent and get it with an extended warranty from the retailer instead of some gay manufacturer's warranty.

Putting a sub in the trunk is a little tricky but not really that bad.
To run an additional amp you have to get an in line converter that taps into your + & - inputs on your rear speaker and it converts it to an rca output. The voltage will not be the same as a aftermarket head unit, but I have a Scoche Converter from Walmart and it does a heck of a job. I am very happy that I took the time to put a sub in my trunk.

BTW there is a do it yourself spot on Mustangworld.com and they have step by step instructions on how to do this.

depending on what sub you want to run, you might not even need an additional amp. In that case, the step-by step on Mustangworld.com will work. I have a 10" kicker just to fill in the bass of the 460's already good sound, and i just stole the juice to run it from the stock amps. I was afraid it was going to make the speekers weaker, but not at all, not even when i turn it up all the way. Im sure i would get better sound out of the su if i ran another amp and did everything "correctly" but this is good enough for me.
BTW....my HU single disk player jams sometimes too.

I like my Mach 460. I guess that's cuz it works.

An Aftermarket unit wouldn't look too good in that spot unless you got a double-din unit.

my cd player doesn't work at all. I have a 6-disc in dash unit in a 2001 and it doesn't spin the cd or eject it. it is ****. i was frustrated until i put a flowtech o/r h pipe on and american thunder catback exhaust on. buy exhaust....pick up some power.....forget music.....i sure did.

stock sucks, youll need a special adapter wiring harness to make it work with the mach system, you could try and do it without buying the harness but i wouldnt recomend it (i do this stuff for a living) head to your local car stereo place and check some out, i personally like the way alpine's line looks in the mustang interior, thats what i have 9827 and it doesnt swallow cds
