Mach one or cobra or gt?

Well I don't know a whole lot about the modular motors, but here goes. The 99/01 Cobra's were supposed to put out 305 and 315 hp respectively. But they were over-rated. The 03/04 Mach 1's are supposed to put out 305 hp, and they are UNDER-rated. They really dyno (someone correct me if I'm wrong) around 285-290 rwhp stock. They run mid to low-13's stock, (with a good driver of course). I don't know what the Cobra's run, but I think they are heavier than the Mach also. As for the GT, 260 hp, 302 ft/lbs torque, and low-14's stock, 14.0, 13.9 with a real good driver. The 2V GT makes more low-end power, and the 4V makes more power up top. If I was gonna buy one, I would buy an 03/04 Mach over ANY other modular stang. Then as for handling, the Mach comes .5" lowered from the factory, with better shocks, and I think some bolt-ons subframe connectors. It outhandles the Cobra in straight line performance due to the solid axle, whereas the Cobra has IRS. The GT is definitely the under-dog of the 3, but still has enormous potential considering it's low cost. Anyway, that's all I know about them. Hope this helped out, holla if you need more info.

The mach one has a similiar 4 valve motor but it has Navigator cams and the cobra doesn't. The mach one has more low end torque compared to the cobras because of the cams. The cobra has a little more up top. The mach has 3.55 gears while the cobra has 3.27. Most 99 and 01 cobras dyno in the 270ish range, i thought the machs did in the 260's but i could be wrong. Hope this helps.

The Mach1's dyno more then the pre 03 cobras do. Stock for stock that is. Straight line the Mach1 will whoop up on both a GT and a pre-03 cobra. Cornering advantage goes the the cobra, due to irs and lower then mach1's. GT's are better off the line then cobras due to the 2v's power band being lower, as well as the solid rear axle. Stock for stock for stock, my order would be as follows:
Mach1 (straight line killer)
Cobra (handles well ,launching is very hard/breaking halfshafts if you up the power)
GT (as posted, as the tools to be great)

You can easily mod a GT to make more power then Mach's or Cobras, but the 4v head is great, plus the solid axle is superior for drag racing. My choice would be Mach1. Best of both. solid axle, and 4v's.
Now throw in the Bullitt it makes the mix a little more intersting..:)

Let's clarify...

The 99's were the ones down on horsepower & subsequently received "the horsepower fix" from FoMoCo to bring them back up to par. You can read more info about the '99 fix at TXSnakeCharmer's site: http://www.shane.roberts.net/cobra.htm
"Fix" page: http://www.shane.roberts.net/techman1.htm

The great majority of the '01s were "right" from the factory, with the exception of a very small few that suffered from pinging (not a big story as the '99s since not too many experienced this problem).

The 99 and the 01 was rated at 320hp & 317tq from the factory. A fixed 99 and a healthy 01 will both make roughly the same power, with some minor deviations (expected). Multiply 320 and 317 by .85 to get the "standard" rwhp/rwtq numbers you would expect (takes 15% drivetrain losses into account). They typically see 270-275rwhp/268-272rwtq range (bonestock).

Ok, with all of that being said, how do you compare all 3? Well, that point is debatable but it seems like the 03/04 Cobra trumps the 03/04 Mach I, which in turn trumps the 99/01 Cobra.

Yes, the Mach I *could* be ranked above the 03/04 Cobra if you are talking dragstrip only in stock trim but everyone knows that a modded 03/04 Cobra has TONS more potential and is probably the "better" starting platform of the 3 aforementioned mustangs if you plan on racing.

If you do want to race an 03/04 cobra at the dragstrip, you should swap out the IRS for a solid axle. Wheel hop is a PITA for many 99/01 & 03/04 cobra owners at the strip. The nice thing about the Mach I is that is does come with a solid axle so wheel hop is something you really don't have to worry about.

Lastly, let's take power modifications into consideration. The added power from a new pulley, CAI, exhaust, (and proper tune) frees up gobs more horsepower for the 03/04 cobras. Freeing up that kind of power in a 99/01 cobra or 03/04 Mach I is simply not possible. There is lots of room to work with the new 03/04 cobras, especially since they already have forged internals.

Just my .02

Easy, possibly yes but cheap I'd say no, it takes more then a couple bolt ons to come close to 300 rwhp with a N/A GT. That being said, I still love GTs...gears, tires, exhaust, couple other little goodies, good driver and they really role. :flag:

Thanks for clearing that up, but he never asked about the 03/04 Cobra. I still think the Mach would take the Cobras, due to their 1) solid axle 2) more low-end power 3) lighter weight.

I'm sorry there is no way the Mach 1 can compete with an 03/04 cobra on the drag strip. I've seen 03/04 cobras run 12.6-12.7 bone stock at the track, I've never seen a Mach 1 do that. Also the 03/04 cobras like was said earlier have alot more potential to be fast. I've heard the 03/04 cobras are underrated as well and dyno as high as 360 rwhp stock. Not including the 03/04 cobras I would take #1 Mach 1, #2 Pre 03 Cobra, #3 GT. It really just depends on what you want to get out of the car though and how much you want to spend.

I concur...CAintake, exhaust, chip, pulley and tires = mid 11s at 120+ mph!! No mustang comes close mod for mod.

But for this thread I agree with others, Mach> Pre 03 Cobra > GT

Yea that's nice, but you forgot one thing. We AREN'T TALKING ABOUT 03/04 COBRAS!!! He asked specifically about 99/01 Cobras, which I believe the Mach can take. Of COURSE the Mach can't take an 03/04 Cobra, it's freakin supercharged and under-rated at 390 hp and 390 ft/lbs of torque. And I thought I was bad at not paying attention to threads.

how does an 04 or 03 mach one compare to the non supercharged cobras? engine specs? speed, handling, style, etc. Then where does the gt fit in with its 2 valve?

thanks for any input

I don't see anything about 03/04 in there.

Ok before you go running your mouth maybe you should pay attention. I wasent saying anything about the original statement I was responding to what he said.

Who is that? COBRA90GT? Then why did you quote me? It looks like in post #12, you were replying to me. I'm not trying to get in a pissing match here, but people need to clarify what they are talking about. I've been very clear that I, and the original poster are talking about the 99/01 Cobras.

I read that and figured you were including 03/04 cobras in there and agreeing with the dude before that said the Mach 1 could take an 03/04 cobra on the drag strip. If you werent trying to get in a piss match then how come you responded back with such a sarcastic smart ass response?

Because I have some killer allergies today and feel like a pile of crap :( , and I was just trying to get this thread back on topic. It's all good. :flag:
