How much have ya'll spent on preping your short-block for your rebuilds? I was looking to have mine: cleaned, honed/bored, balanced. I don't think it'll need decking or align-honing but who knows till you measure. What do you think that will cost around J-ville, FL. Also, any good recomendations for local machinists?

500 with new pistons and pressing them on the rods, valve job on heads, block bored .060 with new cam bearings and freezplugs. plus 60 dollars for turning the crank 10/10 it was also hot tanked and looked brand new

spent in the neighborhood of $450 for .030" overbore and hone, magnaflux, main bore alignhone, freeze plugs, hot tank and cam bearings of my choosing(bearings and install). i clearanced the block for the stroker kit myself so that saved some money. expect to pay a little more. will be shelling out another $400 or so to have the WHOLE bottom end balanced(pistons, rings, rods, pins, crank, damper, flywheel and clutch). do your research and don't simply go with the cheapest! call and find a place that specializes in SBF's and you'll be glad you did! have them break down the costs. you don't have to get it all done at once if you can't afford it. ask to speak to some of their clientele. if they say no and won't tell you how many engines they do a month, leave. you only want to go thru this process once. TRUST ME. hope this helps. good luck!
