Made the switch to Royal Purple today...

and must say I am impressed!

It was also my first time doing an oil change by myself. made a big mess with the old oil but oh well!

I'm pretty happy with it. I took it out for a quick test drive and it felt a little different. This is my first time using synthetic.

Ironically it also just hit 35,000 today too.

I'm pretty happy with the results.

i dunno dude i put mobil 1 in my car today and i def like the rp better. the only reason why i went with mobil 1 is they didnt have any rp at advanced and i go back to school tomorrow so i didnt want to wait. its good stuff man some may not like it but some do.

the VOAs for RP are kinda scary. i dont use Mobil 1 anymore, i only use German Castrol 0w30.

ive read numerous threads of motors that tanked because of RP.

yea but you cant necessarily blame the oil either. Ive heard of cars blowing motors running mobil 1 too. its amazing what statistics can show. of all the cars in the world running royal purple how many have had problems?

Mobil 1 FTW! The engineers on my ship were telling me about how much cleaner the valves and everything stayed on the engines when they were using mobil 1. He said the company made them switch to chevron oil and now there is way more sludge and carbon buildup.

This is coming from a guy with a masters in marine engineering...I made the switch to mobil 1 and havent looked back.

I loved RP, but I like amsoil more. And I have tried all the big names.

yea ive never tried amsoil really good but that would def be up there in those choices cause i know amsoil is really good stuff too.

if you prefer an oil based on how you perceive it to be working in your daily-driven engine then you need a cat scan. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but im tired of these threads where people recommend oils with out doing tests or looking at the results inside the components after extended periods of time.

If you want to feel a difference right away switch from running cooking oil to any engine oil, otherwise it's all in your head. Things you should notice are viscosity grade on cold or hot days, and color/smell after running the engine very hot comparing mineral to synthetic. General feelings of "good" "not good" leave me scratching my head

I recommend oils based on "MY" dyno numbers and track times. Unless you are clueless you can tell when your engine sounds good. I could hear I had more power! My 347 made 17MPG at over wheel 400HP. Do not label us as stupid. I built the 347 and the 351 in my sig. I call 3hp at the wheels from oil a BIG deal. Turbo engines tend to punish oil, but Amsoil RP hold up and go the distance.

not calling you guys stupid, just saying you'll find whatever you want to find with oils. What works for your app based on what you see as results is not externally valid, i see way too many blanket recommendations based on little more than a hunch. And my guess is RP gets 80% of its business from this, cuz its certainly not from analytical data tests

I worked for Royal Petroleum for 3 years and many of the owners and bosses worked with or around John Williams during his hay-day, master of marketing and proprietary "secrets" yes, but what's produced today they wouldn't want to be compared in USE tests against most any major manufacturer on the market.

the guy was just being a funny. I dont think that a response like that is really warrented. and after having serious issues running RP in my tranny I will never run that stuff again. And i will value what you say ummm well, NEVER.

I've got almost 195,000 miles on my trans with RP Syncromesh in it since about 40,000...it can't be that bad
