Is there a way to delete the MAF sensor? I would really like to go to a MAP/IAC set up. i know the MAF does basically the same thing as an IAC does, but in a different way. well... the MAF is a restriction that i could live without and the IAC doesnt restrict nearly as much. or at the very least is there any info on porting the MAF sensor? Ive searched and come up empty handed.

They don't do the same thing at all. The MAF lets the computer know how much air is coming to control the amount of fuel to let in. The IAC controls idle speed. It keeps the rpms up for smoother shifts and brings it up when you turn on the AC or put in in gear (with an auto).

Dude, just get a Lightning MAF, why do it harder than you got to, geez.

What are your mods since you need to get something better?

IAC intake air charge temp sensor, not idle air controll. and its for simpler tuning. its what mopar runs. intake air charge temp, manifold absolute pressure and ... thats all. with that set up you can got forced induction port and a whole host of other mods without need to recalibrate the PCM or ECM as ford calls it. as for my mods, port and polish, and 4.5 stroker kit.

I'm sure it can be done, but it would require a ton of work.

It'd probably be easier to get a program and some widebands.

Actually, IAC is Idle Air Control. ACT is Air Charge Temp. Don't use Slowcar terms on a Ford site.

So, you want to, in theory, convert a MAF system to a Speed Density system to get rid of intake restriction?

MAF and "IAC" as you call it, are two different things. MAF measures the air coming in by passing a sample through a "sample tube" on the mass air housing.

An "IAC" as you call it, or ACT as it's supposed to be called, or IAT Intake Air Temp,
measures the temp of, you guessed it, the intake air.

The newer model cars have an integral MAF & IAT sensor the 2 MAF wires and a third wire for the intake air temp, older systems used 2 seperate sensors to do this. That is why the older MAFs had 4 wires, versus the new ones with 6 wires.

well excuse me for the terms i used, ive been stuck in mopar mode for 3 years now. and i know how the systems work. i just prefer speed density over MAF. and yes i want to get rid of the restriction. speed density makes it easer to go forced induction and tis also easier to tune.

ask if someone here still has their S/D setup from when they did their upgrade to MAF.

BTW using a larger MAF will more than compensate for any restriction

i thought it may, but i havent found any that would work without me having to have everything recalibrated. hence the want for s/d. seems to be pretty swell self tuning. atleast the mopar systems are, i dont know if ford has cought up with mopar on that yet. but then mopar does have TCMs that learn your driving habbits and adjust accordingly and ford doesnt yet. but oh well its is just a ford afterall.

I prefer to drive my car rather than having a computer doing it

well im the same way, but when you consider the HIPO 3.5 is pushin 270 hp and for struggles to get to the 200 mark...... well the speaks for its self. on top of that the A606 is more reliable than any tranny ford has put out... i hate to say it but mopar has beat ford on several fronts.

The 3.8 isn't exactly ford's flagship engine. For the amount of work done to the engine, I'd say it makes fair power. It's not uncommon knowledge that the 3.8 is weak compared to its potential. Just not on Ford's priority list. The 3.8 also has a low compression ratio compared to other v6 engines pushing good numbers.

The 3.8, typically, is a high school kid's car or someone who wants the mustang styling without high mpg (even though the mpg isn't that much better than a 4.6). Most folks who want more power, opt for the GT/SVT packages so I guess Ford doesn't see a big need for upping the power of the 3.8.

Ford has bigger fish to fry. Like the problems with the 4.6 smashing spark plugs. The 5.4 is seeing more action so they'll be working out bugs in that.

We'll see how ford responds when the camaro and challenger are released. They've been pretty much uncontested for v8 sports cars the past few years.

esh... its all gravy... i recently got my hands on a garret T3 so ill go turbo. and for anyone wondering the signal wire for the AF guages is the black one... the grey wire wont work for a A/F guage at all. unless ford screwed up and wired my car backwards. lol
