I just installed a complete cat back magnaflow system and have a couple of questions. Is it me, or are the 3.5" tips just too big?

Second, does the exhaust sound normally resonate to the point of creating vibrations throughout the car or is that just because all the hanger bushings are new?

I'd say that it's pretty normal to have vibrations due to the exhaust, especially if the new bushings you put in are really tight around the hangers.

In my opinion, 3" tips are the biggest tips that still look good on our cars. I had 2 1/2" tips for the first 2 years I owned the car and upgraded to 3" tips... and now I feel it's perfect. The 99+ year Mustangs look better with the 3 1/2" tips because of the way the exhaust slots on the bumper are designed.

Overall though, if you like it than that's all that matters :nice:

You probably got metal touching metal somewhere. When I had tail pipes and my car was lowered they would scrub somewhere on the turns. After a while it stopped. I guess it "fixed" itself.

Well I got rid of the Magnaflow mufflers and 3 1/2" tips. Now have Corsa Reds and 3" rolled tips. Looks a lot better IMHO. The Corsa's seem a bit quieter at idle and are drone free at cruise :nice:

I have 3.5 inch tips on mine and I think it looks awesome. They really don't seem that big when they are on the car.

Just the other day I saw a mustang that had dual exhaust but only had ~1" tips on it lol.

IMO you need wide tires to pull off the 3.5 tip look. I love mine though.

Yeah, maybe. The 3 1/2" just didn't seem to look right below the bumper. Now if the bumper was cut out it would, I'm sure, looked a lot better. BTW how wide are you thinking for the tires. I have 255/45R17 on 9" wide rims on all the corners.

Don't cut your bumper cover. I think the tips look good. just put some 315's in the rear. As far as that resonation goes. You can buy some roll on dynomat. Clean your underside real good. And put the dynomat on your underbody. It will get rid of the resonation and protect against rust.

I had no intention of cutting into the bumper. I was just thinking that if they were molded that way it would have looked better with the larger tips. I'll stay with the 3" tips, I think they look great. I assume that dynomat has an adhesive side that bonds to the underside. Do most automotive stores carry it?

Yeah, it does. But don't use that. Use the roll on dynamat. It's kinda like bedliner for trucks. But it's just as good as the adhesive kind when it comes to sound deadening.
