I'd like to eventually get a cat back system for my '00 GT. How easy are they to install. Can it be done with a floor jack and some jack stands, or will I need to lift the car higher. Can the old exhaust easily be removed and the new easily put on. Let me know your experience with this.

Thanks.

Thats how I did mine. Put the car on jack stands, got a sawzall to cut off the old cat back and put the new one on. Not a problem at all. Don't know what cat back your getting but I would reccomend the magna packs. I got these along with the catted x and have had nothing but compliments on it. Also noticed a little on SOTP meter.

hardest part would be cutting off old exhaust. I used my small hacksaw, and took me about 20 min on each side. Would habe been faster if I had enough room to use bigger one I guess.

yeah you do. Pipe after muffler goes over rear axle. you can get it off without it, but then you have to take spring/shock off of rear end, which is much much more time comsuming then jusst cut the bastard off

Definitely a driveway project. To remove the stock catback without dropping the rear axle, you need to cut it where it goes over top of the axle. Sawzall, etc makes it much easier, I used a regular old hacksaw. Didn't take too long. Just make sure you have a lot of WD-40 or liquid wrench for the h-pipe bolts.

I did the magnaflow swap yesterday. I had a lift available though. I took my sweet ass time and it took about 4-4.5 hours. At least an hour of which was adjusting the system to eliminate any droop and get the tail pipes adjusted to my satisfaction. I was a bit picky about the look.

Overall I'm happy with the install and the performance so far. I feel I have picked up low end and midrange torque. Only complaint is I have a cluck to chase down (only hear it on MAJOR bumps) that I didn't have prior to the install. Clearences are tight on the passenger side extension pipe.

Also if you want a loud "make everyone hear/look at me" system, the regular system is not the one you want. You want the louder one. It's great for daily driver (my situation) though. Absolutly zero drone and just enough growl under acceleration to sound good.

you may also consider taking it to the shop to have the tips welded on. saves the trouble of them rattling later and possibly falling off. most shops wont charge too much either, maybe 20 bucks

I was thinking about this when installing my system. I can not see how they could possible fall off. My brother, who helped me hold things up during install, could also not see how a tip could fall off.

Oh yeah, they can.. mine did.. the little screws/bolts that came with it, fell out.. they did it over with different screws and loc-tite.. no problemo since.. other than that small mishap, the fit, finish of the system is A++..

I'll keep an eye on it.

How close was the passenger side intermediate pipe (h-pipe to muffler) to the bracket that holds the fuel lines on your car?

My biggest complaint is the pipe is a little too close for my liking to the plastic bracket that holds the fuel lines which run up the driveshaft tunnel and are with in 1 to 1.5 inches of the exhasut tube. I actually had to trim teh plastic bracket a little bit for clearance. My car is a 98 BTW.

Packs. I'm 34, and consider myself 'old' now. But I honestly think I would have been disapointed with anything quieter. Granted, I did the Catted-X at the same time.
