I had the dual exhaust setup on my '02 V-6 and loved it but with the single cutout on the bumper the only way to get around it is with side exhaust and cover the bumper up ( I.E. Roush body kit). I think a single 3" in /out would be wnough for the V-6 and not look like crap. If Magnaflow could make a good single or dual in/single outlet unit and not make it look like a fart can muffler I'd jump on it

How about dual pipes on the one side, like the GTO? I know it isn't as cool as having duals on both sides of the bumper but it would solve the problem of the bumper cutout and would also avoid the rice look since the pipes wouldn't be oversized..

One thing I've noticed about V6 Mustangs owners who modify their exhaust: the ricier the better. How many 6 cyl mustangs have you seen with dual tips rubbing the bottom of the stock bumper? Or even worse, is when they get a fart muffler and add a 6" tip. They LOVE it!
Magnaflow, go ahead and make it look as import as you want. The teens will buy.

Don't be an idiot. When I had my last V6 Mustang, I converted it to duals and had factory style turn-down tailpipes on both sides. I know lots of non-ricers driving V6 Mustangs.

I had GT takeoff mufflers on my V6, but the thing that made the biggest different in improving the sound was welding the weep holes shut. It eliminates the vast majority of the raspy sound. I don't know if this makes sense for Magnaflow, since it might lead to rust in northern climates.

dumps or turn downs are good aslong as the car sounds good not like a ricer

Well yea if the pipes come behind the bumper and then dump behind it out of sight, that would be nice. Although I am not sure how you would do it as the stock mufflers are visable from behind and you really cant dump it without notice, maybe pollished turn downs right out of the muffler, simular to the 99-04 V6, but more smooth, larger diamater, and ofcourse would be duals. Alot of hotrodders with older cars do the the same thing, exhaust turning down right before the bumper instead of the usual straight out.I think it would set the car off and set it apart from the rest of the V6 crowd with duals and make it look much more custom and clean, not the thrown together after thought look....so basically I agree with the others LOL, just explaining what I think would look nice.

I'll keep this short. One 3" pipe out the single right side with a rolled tip that resembles the Mach 1 tip. That would look nice, not ricey, and also support around 300 hp. If someone wants dual, they can change the bumper and put a GT exhaust on.

Why don't you just have 2 pipes using the stock rear bumper exit.

I am about to get dual exhaust for my '98, probably in the next 30-60 days. I would NOT consider for a second an aftermarket single exhaust, even if it gave me 400 hp, 11 second quarter miles, and 50 miles per gallon. It's gotta be dual exhaust, or else you might as well just save for a GT, in my opinion. I want my car to look like a Mustang, not a fartcan acura. Having a big, chrome single exhaust.... eew. yuk. Well, if you do it that way as a single, remember to include about 20 pounds of window decals in the box, because the buyers of those kits will probably love it!

I know a lot of guys who think like him.

There's just something about dual exhaust. Even people who don't know anything about cars think dual exhaust is the best thing since sliced bread. Look at every fart canned import you see. The guys who spend big bucks on their wheezing 1.8L's tend to convert to dual fart cans. It prob doesn't do a damn thing for them, but the bragging rights of having dual exhaust is the reason they do it.

I think it was stupid of Ford to put a single cutout. I think they should have done the rear bumper like the 99-04 V6 bumper and left it flat and had the tip extend under the bumper.

MOST V6's i see on the road that are modded tend to have dual exhaust. Once in a while i see a single fart can, sometimes i see dual fart cans, but the majority of the time i see two tailpipes extending out from under the bumper cover. Sometimes the V6'er swaps for a GT bumper, especially when a GT owner runs dumps and wants to trade.

If i owned a V6, DUAL EXHAUST would be the only think I would consider. That would mean getting a GT rear bumper would have to be factored into the cost.

Did Ford make the rear bumper in such a way that you can manually cut out the left cut-out on your own??

I've always thought that most of the v6 cars with dual exhaust, like the rice burners, were Players. UNLESS, they were pushing some serious hp. Serious.

I, myself, wasn't suggesting a big fart cannon mounted back there. A single 3" with a slash cut rolled tip hardly looks rice to me...and I've never owned a v6 except for my GN. The single would be lighter, less complicated, and would not require a GT rear bumper that Magnaflow is not going to supply. I would make the muffler as small as possible to minimize the standing out of the muff.

That's just a stereotype. There are plenty of V6 rice burners, but that doesn't mean all of them are. I';ve seen plenty of stock V6's with dual exhaust and bullitt wheels as their only mods.

I would rather have the exhaust come out sides AFTER the rear tire,Kinda like the Trans ams had
Not before because if eveyone remebers Ford had the F 150 with side exhaust before the rear wheel and the emissions tarnished the chrome green on hubcaps

ok, i'll chime my opinion in here. I used to have a v6 mustang, currently have no mustang. I would NEVER consider UPGRADING my exhuast to another single exhuast system. If there were no dual exhuast options, I'd just buy a nice looking tip and you'd never get me to pay for ONE nice muffler. As a sixer, the one thing you want is to not LOOK like a sixer. It's ok if other mustang owners can identify your car, but the sixer just looks weak, but it's not, it's still a Mustang. The reason it looks weak is the unbalanced single exhuast. (and it is weak, but no reason to look weak)

We are not going to debate: "If you want duals, just buy a GT", that's not an option for everyone, and that's not the feedback that Magnaflow wants. They are building a system for the v6, so let's help them make it look good.

Mustangworld.com used to have an article telling how to cutout your own bumper on 99-04's. does anyone know if this is doable on the '05's? if not, I think the only option is the Lip that has been discussed. If it does, my prediction is that we will see GT guys cutting out thiers for larger pipes, aftermarket Corvette sized pipes. Dumps don't work and here is why: If we are debating what looks right and wrong b/c of the look of one cutout, wouldn't it look just as bad if we don't use that one cutout?

My vote is for self cutouts OR the lip.

Well anyway you go, the owner will have to either buy or make a lip or cutout the other side.Dumps just seemed different than the usual to me....maybe you should do a high flow version of the stock exhaust so you dont have to worry about it, and advertise it as a highflow replacement version and that it retains a sleeper look.Or something like the other guys wont know what hit them until they hear the roar of the mighty V6.LOL.

I would offer a dual exhaust kit with measurements to cut the bumper included. I would also include two flat black trim pieces to form fit both cut outs in the rear. This way both sides would look exactly the same, the color of the car would not matter, and you could even put the magnaflow logo on the black trim pieces.

I wish.

No, my Mustang is a mineral gray V6, and I won't get it for eight more weeks (dammit!) The one in the picture is indeed a GT, I just grabbed the first picture I could find off the Net, and modified it with Photoshop so I could show what I meant about the "lip".
...and my sincere apologies to the actual owner of that GT for messing with his beautiful car.

EDIT: BlueJoker's idea sounds like a good one, and would look better than a lip.

As a V6 owner I would like performance and sound to be my first two considerations in the purchase of an aftermarket exhaust. The Dual exhaust is my preference, but something would need to be done to the rear bumber. If you supplied a template for the cut-out of the drivers side bumper and possibly a plastic backing that could be epoxied in to strengthen the bumper and not be exposed from the rear, you would then have my attention.

I have to agree with him 100%. Im a V6 owner myself, and my primary concern for buying an aftermarket exhaust is sound and performance. Anything that gets me closer to that old school rumble and growl of the old v8s is going in the right direction for me. Im not worried about looks so much - I seriously dont think any company would produce a "riced" out exhaust for a Mustang. Most people wanting rice rockets are driving them. True, some people live and die for the things, but most people want a classic tempered look. Especially on this body style.

Id much rather see dual exhaust, but there are a few things to keep in mind as well. If its not possible to do it without a GT bumper swap, Id be highly discouraged. One of the main reasons I think most people buy a v6 is because of the money. It seems to me if this was the only route it would be pushing most peoples budgets too high for a simple exhaust. As for cut outs and lips, if its possible, great. But how would that look? It seems to me itd be really hard to keep it flush and clean, and really easy to mess up. As for single exhaust, it has its ups and downs. Alot of people are discouraged by it, but others arent. Duals make the v6 look alot more like a GT, but I really dont wanna be a poser GT. Im proud of the car I have and dont want to make it out to be something other than it is. Also, it does lose some of that "sleeper" quality, which Ive seen quite a few people comment on.
