I have been reading on this forum that Flowmasters may actually hurt power over stock mufflers. I currently have the 3 chambered Force II cat back. I love the sound- very muscular and throaty, even at idle- slight drone at 2000 rpm. But could they be costing me horsepower? Should I switch to a design like magnaflow, which is supposedly straight through, with no baffles or restrictions? I don't want my car to be too loud and I don't want it to drone. BTW, I've never had my car on a dyno. See the mods in my sig.
thanks

maybe if you switched to the regular magnaflow since you don't want it that loud you would probably get a few horsepower but not much. But magnapacks sound alot better Imo.

If you've got the 2.5" catback you aren't losing power from the flows. Actually White99GT is making something like 550 rwhp with your catback.. and he made more power with it than a magnaflow catback.. given he is supercharged, but N/A there wouldn't be much to gain from switching to a straight thru muffler.

I would not change IMHO. I have had both systems before. The Force II(3 chambers) and now the magnaflow. I really miss the flowmaster sound, and my regular magnaflows have more drone then the 3 chambers did. Besides, I really do not think you will gain much if any more power from the swap.

Well that is reassuring because I prefer the sound I have with the Flowmasters. I'm surprised to hear that the Magnaflows drone more- I've heard my friends GT with Magnaflows and his seemed quiter both at idle and when he revved. The flowmasters seem to have a deeper rumble when idleing and more of a growl when revved.
