mail order tune??

I dont have the $$$ for a Dyno tune, and there isnt a Dyno for probly an hours drive from me; so is there a good place to get a good tune for running GT40P heads, Explorer/Cobra intake, and TFS stage 1 cam with supporting bolt ons? Im looking for something better than just a Hypertech, Jet, etc. basic tune. Maybe not wring every last HP out of it but get er running right. How does it run with these mods and stock computer?

Personally: I'd shoot Don LaSota an email. He's the only guy I know of whom I would allow to do a mail order tune (If he was local, I'd love to let him do what he can with the '94 GT). He will be real straight-up with you, which is hard to find in that arena.

Sometimes one hiccup for mail order tunes is aftermarket MAF's. Just a heads up.

Good luck.

About the only problem I can see with a custom mail order tune is the A/F ratio. They can tune just about everything else, turn things like the EGR on and off etc. but they will probably tune the A/F ratio fat since they have no way to know what exactly your car will actually be. They tune them fat just for safety since a lean tune (the most power) could melt it down. To tune for a lean A/F they have to actually have the car hooked up to the meters.

send me paypal and i'll tell you what to set your timing and fuel pressure to. that's about all those things do. SOOOO much better to dyno tune it.
For 99.9% of the mail order chips that is true...

However,
There are some shops that will create a custom tune, burn it to a chip, and mail it to you.
The best way to do this is to install the chip, perform a datalog using a WB O2, then mail the datalogs back to the shop. They will then modify the tune, and re-burn it to the chip.

I'm not sure how they deal with ignition timing though?

The process would be slow, and I don't know about the cost...

good luck,
