Has anyone here ever been very successful replacing the main and rod bearings on a 351W from working below the car, without removing the timing chain? There's plenty of access to remove the oil pan.
Specifically the upper half of the #1 main seems like it would be tricky to rotate in position.
This is assuming of course that there is no crankshaft machine work required.

Often the bearings slip out easily if the crank is dropped down by loosening the mains. Rod bearings are simple: just remove the caps.

That's what I'm hoping.
I've never replaced main bearings this way.
Thanks Dave. It can't hurt to try.
