I hope I'm not the only person who has not checked under their battery. I got the car 2 1/2 years ago and it still has the battery that came with it. Finally pulled the battery yesterday and found a substantial pile of goop in the battery tray (in the trough). There's a hole in the tray so some of the goop was in the channel below that supports the tray. It looks like it hadn't been cleaned for at least 10 years. You'll need a lot of baking soda, hot water and a hose. Hope this helps someone.

What else are you supposed to use to wedge the battery in place?
