debating wether I should get a 99 cobra or a 00gt. is there really a huge difference between the motors? I know a 4v is better, but how much? whats the difference in sound with exhaust? I will keep the car NA just looking for something that sounds good and looks good.

GT is no slouch, sounds awesome with exhaust. The obvious differences are the 4v heads vs 2v heads and 4 cams vs 2 cams, also different intake manifold altogether, throttle body...clouple other things like the GT is better set up for drag racing with live rear axle.

But if all you're worried about is the sound just get the GT, obviously the DOHC has more potential sound wise they are very close, my Mach idles and chugs a lot more at lower RPMs but at WOT they sound about the same.

I know alot about cars. but I've been into and had getting the old car and spending all the money on mods thing. I'm in college and looking for a pimp, practical, nice car. I'm just wondering if geting the cobra is worth looking for and paying around 3-4k more for it. only mods done to either of the cars will be gears, full exhaust, and some suspension mods.

If you're going to make a GT look like a Cobra, to me it just simply makes more sence to just go with the Snake and be done with it.

P.S. Have you checked insurance premiums yet? Cobra's are a lot more to insure than a GT. If the insurance is going to kill you, I'd consider a used 03 MACH1. They are slightly higher insurance wise than a GT, but aren't nearly as bad as the Cobra's.

I'd get the snake. A friend of mine has a '99 Cobra with a cheap MAC h-pipe and 40 series Flows and it sounds awesome!!! The two extra valves make a world of difference in the sound.

Also, a little mentioned fact here is that, if this will also be your daily driver, you'll really appreciate the added handling the IRS provides. Substantially less wheel hop and excellent cornering.

it would have to be a 99 cobra if I got a cobra. so an 03 mach is out of the question to much money. I'm just looking stock for stock just HOW much better the cobra is. some poeple say there not that much of a difference in speed. my other interest was to get a 331 stroker with afr 185's, FTI cam, all the other goodies and 4.30s in a 94-95 gt. I can't figure it out can I find a really nice low mile 99 cobra for 14k? thanks

stock 99 - 04 gt 260hp and 302ft/lb at the fly. 99 cobra 320 hp and the torque is somewhere around 320 as well but not positive. Get the cobra, if you get the gt youll spend at least 3-4k making it look like a cobra and trying to get it as fast as the cobra. The cobra engine can be reved higher and has more top end.

Only thing I don,t like about 99+ Cobra is the IRS.

With that said, get the Cobra and don't look back !!

IRS = wheel hop
Solid axle = no wheel hop

ive been in both and didn't really feel that much of a diff. i think it would be cool to replicate an 03 cobra. i beat down a doch cobra in my old car with no problems I thought It would have been faster then that. plus 99 cobras look just like a plain old gt.
