Mallory Unilite module

So anyone know for sure if i should use a lot of the grease it comes with ot just a little? My wiring harness is brand new (EZ-wiring) so i dont think or know if it has a resistor wire like the factory harness. Should i use a resistor ? Thanks for the link to the Accel module, i ordered than one instead of the mallory unit, saves me $50!

it probably does not have a resistance wire so you would need to use a ballast resistor but double check it just to make sure, some of the aftermarket harnesses can be tricky like that. i prefer the chrysler style because they don't have too much resistance and you can mount them anywhere, even under the dash if you want. the one for a 69 or so 340 cuda should work fine

For what it's worth I picked up a pertronix module yesterday and the instructions say that as long as there is at least 1.5 ohms at the coil you do not need a resistor. Not sure if this correlates to the mallory unit, just thought I'd add my .02$.

I have a Unilite and burned several modules as well. The Mallory e-spark is a direct replacement and about 1/2 the cost. Also, Pertronix makes a module for the Unilite distributor. I went with a Pertronix II module - so far so good. Direct bolt on.

not 100% but fairly sure the E-spark is the new unilite or rather renamed unilite that is.

i also poped 3 times my module the problem was the ground had it on the
body and now on the engine.. no problems more
i am verry happy withe the mallory..... so put the ground on the eninge and no problems more

junk the distributor and get an msd or one without points... Those dumb modules go bad all the time. I had one in my 69 and it went bad everytime there was a major weather change (happens quite a bit in TX)... After $175 in modules, I had enough sense to get rid of the darn thing. They are known for going bad and at $85 a pop... its cheaper to get a MSD

I've had mine in for years (about 5) and never had a single problem.

Mallory had a huge problem in the early to mid 90's with bad modules. i had 3 or 4 go bad myself and we had probably 5 or 6 a week come back when i worked at super shops back then. the one that's in the car now has been in the car for probably the last 10 or 12 years with no problems.
