Manual Tranny Fluid

I just wanted to verify with you guys that Automatic Transmission fluid goes in my 5sp and not gear oil. How many quarts? My tranny is due for a fluid flush, which i've never had done before so I want to make sure I get the correct stuff put in.

98 GT w/ 91,xxx miles

Just pull the drain plug, refer to your owners manual for amount, and fill up with Royal Purple syncromax . I just did this to my tranny a month ago, helped with shifts ALOT.

No offense taken. Well, I was thinking about getting my fluid changed and that's what the guys at the "oil change" place told me. I honestly don't know how the process goes. Maybe it's just as simple as drain and fill.

I honestly didn't know that you had to flush a manual transmission. I thought that it was only the automatics that required it.

You drain and fill a manual transmission like you do with oil. Tip: Make sure you can undo the fill plug before you undo the drain plug

Even automatic transmissions don't "need" a flush. If you change the fluid when it is due, you can use the same method of just letting the fluid drain. A automatic does have a lot more passages in it, but a hard flush can acually dammage a automatic transmission. I don't own any autos anymore, but if I had one that was overdue on fluid, I'd prolly give the trans some fresh stuff, drive it for a week, and then change the fluid again. It's safer and cheaper then paying for a transmission flush.

Tremec advises Havoline. Just use Chevron Dextron III and only put in 3.2 qts. Got rid of my 1st shift clunk and is like a new tranny now. Chevron has the exact same specs as the Havoline. It is best to dump the factory fill Mobil 1 and go down .6 qts from Ford spec per Tremec engineering.

ATF specs:

Flashpoint 396 F
Pour Point -54 F
Viscosity @40C 35.5
Viscosity @100C 7.2
Viscosity Index 172
The 3650 operates best with a very low Viscosity Index per Tremec.

I just did this last night. First you unscrew the bottom plug of the tranny using a socket wrench with no socket on it (just use the square part). You may have to use a breaker bar. Let the oil drain. Screw the bottom plug back in nice and tight. Then, use the same tool to unscrew the top plug. It's a little tricky because the H/X cat is in the way. Once it's off, use a funnel or pump ( I used a pump) to put the tranny fluid in. Screw the top plug back in nice and tight. Your done!

I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF (3.28 quarts or some BS). Just fill it up according to your owner's manual specs

so wut type/brand and quantity of fluid are most people using in there tr3650, i did a search and theres no solid answer on how much and what kind to put in
