A freind of mine has 2 Mark VIII's, his wife wrecked one last year and he got one for a parts car. Well he just bought her a new car and is making me a great deal for both. He has a 96 ( wifes) and a 94 ( parts car, running). The 96 got rearended and runs, it has 73K. The 95 is rough, straight body it has 143K.

Ive been use the search button all day. But I have a few questions.
The engine swap doesnt seem like it would be a big deal, And it looks like using the GT ecm (with tune) and harness is the way to go.

Do they have a forged crank?
Is the flywheel flange a 6 bolt or a 8 bolt?
Are the tranny's the same as the GT's? <----- spare parts....lol
And do you guys think the swap would be worth-while?

Any advice would help, thanks.

1. prob not (99 cobras didnt come with one [right?])
2. mostl ikely 6...theyre all autos [to my knowledge]
3. trannys are prob different
4. only worth while if u know a guy who can machine it and put some forged rods and pistons in it with a nice cam for a cheap price :)

Just stumbled upon this, thinking about grabbing a 96 GT for a pretty good price. Anyways, I've had a 94 Mark for over 2 years now.

1. Cast crank
2. All Mark's were auto's
3. 4R70W
4. I think it'd be worth it if you've got the time and know how. The engine makes my big boat pretty quick, and that's with 3.08 gears in the rear. In a Mustang especially with 4.10 gears, you'd be looking at high 13's pretty easy... And as long as it was taken care of it will a lot longer, I'm about to roll 150k on mine...

6 bolt

They have 4R70Ws, the 94 transmission is junk. I wouldn't use any part out of it. The 96 transmission is better but not much.

No, a 99 PI motor will put down the same power as the Mark VIII motor. Guys on the TBird boards have done both of these and the numbers are quite similar between the PI motor swap and Mark VIII motor swap. The 4V swap is more complicated with no gain over the PI motor swap. I would however keep the 4V blocks as those are the Aluminum blocks everybody wants.
