mass air conversion?

do you think it's possible to take a 5.0 mass air conversion kit and use it on a 2.3L speed density motor? reason for asking is that right now i'm running the 19lb injectors on the car and i'm looking for some more power with the mods that are on the motor. or would it be better to just get the ford motorsport part that can adjust the air/fuel mixture and extend the rev limiter? i car i used in scca racing.
 
i just converted my 2.3T to a 70mm last night, right now i'm using a 93 cobra curve but i'll be changing that tonight i hope, its running good tho

i dunno about your ECU how that would work, those kits come with an ECU, i chipped mine but i dont think i could make a file for yours
 
There'd still be some ECU issues to work out if he went with the factory 2.3 MAF right? The ECU used for the MAF cars was also set up for dual plugs and no distributor so swapping ECUs wouldn't make it plug and play either.

In all honesty, after you get done gathering parts, and buying an EEC tuner, would the benefits of swapping from SD to MAF be worth the investment?

I'm not knocking the idea, just trying to sort through the facts and learn a little something along with y'all.
 
the reason i'm asking is because my son and i will be doing the mass air upgrade on his 88 mustang gt. besides the mass air meter and tubes it's just about 6 wires and the new ecu. would an ecu from the 5.0 with mass air in it work on a 2.3 L? i am running the 19lb injectors allready. i plan on comparing the pin out of the 2.3 with the pin out of the mass air ecu 5.0 unit. hey stinger do you any knowledge of the megsquirt system? i do know that FMS does have a box that connects to the ecu and you can adjust the air/fuel mixture and extend your rev limiter, thats what i'd really like to do but the box is very pricey. the car in question is used only in scca road course racing. i really dont want to switch to a carb.stinger, very very nice site, you got me wanting to build a turbo 2.3 for just fooling around town.
 
I haven't messed with megasquirt but I know some people that have.

I really like the turbo ecu/J3 option the more I think about it...you can literally change EVERYTHING with that setup...pretty straight forward too.

I doubt the 5.0 stuff will work right...it would be calculating the fuel for an engine twice the size of yours...

do you mean use the ecu from a turbo t/bird or svo? and the j3 chip? i'm lost about the j3 chip. where can one be had? and if i use the ecu from a tbird would i also use the mass air meter from the same car?
 
Yes, I'd look into a P series turbo ecu (early svo is the cheapest) and use a J3 chip. For simplicity, think of the J3 as the same thing as an EEC-Tuner...it does all of the exact same stuff, only it's 70 bux instead of 400. The turbo cars didn't use a mass air, they used a vane air meter (vam), only reason to snag it as well is so you can verify that the ecu swap works before moving on the the mass air swap.

stinger or anyone else for that matter that has done this can u be a little more spefic bout what all needs to be done to convert to mass air from vane air I will be using an la3 comp on this project or a p series if it would be batter( cant rember which one) thanks:)
