IIRC,
The ecu PULLS timing with higher ACT temps....
Lower ACT temps would have meant more timing....

Also, the stock computer is calibrated with the stock ACT location in mind.
Moving it means the stock tune is no longer as 'correct' for lack of a better word.

Not sure what fixed your problem, but I'm hesitant to think it was moving the ACT...

I can't speak for the guy that did this to my car. All i cared about was that the problem was fixed after we did that. I'm not the kind of guy to down play his fixes at all. The person that did this to my car was a very big person in NMRA Factory Stock class. Winning the inaugural 2000 NMRA Factory Stock class championship. This was not allowed in the F/S class at all but this was something he would do to his street car. You may say it does'nt work but those are your belives and not mine. It worked great on my car and if i was to look back on it i would'nt hesitate to try it again. Also i'm not sure if it makes a diffrence but the computer did not have a stock tune to it. I forget the brand but it have some sort of chip added to it. The car was pretty much stock other then the chip, mass air meter, TB and full exaust with full length headers. I wish i could tell you more. I can turn a wrench like nobodys bussines but when it comes to tunes on any EFI engine i leave it to the pro's. When it comes to somewhat stock 5.0 mustangs i would trust him anyday over anybody else.

I have no idea who this guy is, so don't take my comments as an attack against him!!!!!!!!

What I am saying is that the stock ecu pulls timing when the ACT shows higher temps.

Here is what you will find in the stock A9L, A9P, and X3Z ecu's...
WOT Spark Advance vs. ACT ? FN135
A9L

You mentioned a chip being used....
That does make a huge difference
It means the factory timing values are no longer in affect... and neither are the factory fuel settings.

The only reason I bring it up, is to prevent the misinformation from starting....

Also,
Since a non-stock MAF was being used, there would have been error in the airflow (due to the 'skewing' of the MAF output), which creates error in all of the ignition & fuel tables that use LOAD.
Maybe not a big deal... maybe it was a big deal.
Again, this can be fixed pretty easily with a chip/tune.

Not trying to pick a fight, but the ACT was not likely the fix.

That is GREAT info. I don't take it as attack at all and i'm sure my friend won't either. The ACT might not have been the fix but it worked fine on my car. To tell the truth i have only seen this done twice. One was on his car and the other was on my.

i finally got a chance to put the new mass air on and try clocking it. i turned it 90 degrees, started it up and it ran just like it did with the stock mass air if not better. thanks for all the help.

Clocked does not mean just turn 90 degrees.. Try 1 o'clock, 2,3,4, etc... It's a matter of how the air hits the sensor.

i know that doesn't mean just turn it 90 degrees. that was the first position i tried because of the limited clearance between the mass air and the air intake, and it ran great so i left it since i dont really have any way to test it other than by how it sounds and feels when im driving.
