I know that matching parts is the key to the game what do you "profession stangers" think about my parts? First off I know my heads need to be upgraded but here we go!

1st comp cam actual duration 232 adv. 280
2nd holley 600 cfm/ thinking maybe a demon 625
3rd perform rpm intake that has been notched in the middle
4th hooker comp headers
5th flowmasters 2/12 all the way back
6th stock heads Want to up grade to roush 200s
7th 79 302 bored .60 over
8th world class t-5 from a 4 cylinder stang, 3.97 first gear

sounds ok, exception being the heads. The roush 200's will be a bit much, the roush 180's should be plenty for a 289.

I would assume you're going with the roush's because of the price, and I can't blame you. The intake ports flow quite well, but the exhaust ports need a little work to get them up to the same performance level. You may want to check e-bay(or classified ads) for some used trick flows, or edelbrock performer/performer rpm heads. The AFR's 165 are excellent as well, but they are pricey. Once you reach intake runner volumes over 180cc for a 289, your peak power rpm goes way up. Ideally, you'd want a head with maximum flow, with a smaller volume to keep velocity up.

Should be a strong runner once you get some heads put on it.

what gearing and transmission do you have?

how long is it going to be until you can get the new heads?

if its a long time and or your gearing is high that cam will be too big for a good street engine.
which brings another question, whats the intended use for this motor?

Well its a 302 bored 60 over, I edited that in above. I have a world class t-5 from a 93 4 cyclinder stang. Its supposed to have a 3.97 first gear but dang that seems aweful stout. If I go with iron heads I could have them on there before the end of summer prob. I doubt I'll put alum heads on there because of price unless I can find some used. this will be a street car, somewhat daily driver but I only have to drive like 2 miles to work so I want performance out if it not gas mileage.

I can't wait to try it out!! I'm getting all the wireing together this weekend and should have the new radiator maybe next week!
