MAX BOOST?.....

i have an 01 gt with a v3. would anyone be able to tell what the max boost is that the stock internals can handle, iv been told around 12 pounds but im jus trying to make sure cuz im planning on boosting it up to 10psi. thanks.

I always heard that 8 lbs is safe but 10 lbs is max but sort of pushing it

Boost schmoost. If you're 420rwHP or over, regardless of boost level, you're on pretty thin ice.

All else being equal, you'll be asking for it at 10 or more psi and you'll have little room for error in your tune.

ya i wasnt sure cuz the tech guys at letahl performance told me internals can handle around 12, n iv seen sum guys that are still on stock interns boostin around 10 n i mean i still have the box tune from vortech n im at 8 thats why i didnt know if im as close to max as i can get safely or if i could drop a pully size

it depends on how long you want it to last. theres no reason under good circumstances 12 pounds will destroy it on its own. BUT

if the motor runs a little hot, if you run it hard a little too long, if a hotspot forms in the cumbustion chamber, etc it WILL detonate and take the motor with it the first time.

get some tfs heads and boost it 8 psi. terminator power.

If one is going to go that far, might as well pull the motor out and, while the heads are off, swap in some decent rods and forged pistons. If one keeps the revs moderate, I'd think the cast crank would work fine.

At least then the bottom end is up to the task and there's much lower risk of shrapnel damaging those awesome TFS heads were the stock bottom end to let go.

The only think lacking then I think would be knock detection as part of the engine management strategy...
