This is too funny. Bill and Husun are right. And for the people who can't understand:
Go get on a 12 speed bike and put it in the hardest gear and try going up hill...record your top speed.
Now try the same thing in the 11th gear and try giong uphill...record your top speed.

Keep doing this until you get to the easiest gear and find which one gave you the highest speed. The automotive version of this situation in that 3.27 gears are like going uphill in 11th gear while 4.10s are like 8th. They have a Mathematically higher top speed but when drag is a factor, you need more torque. Now you'll also see that your top speed goes down as you get to the low gears like 1 or 2 (depending on how steep the hill is). This is like have 6.27 gears.

If you still don't get it after trying the experiment, PLEASE go prove us all wrong by swapping in some 2.30 gears and raising your topspeed.

Go to white2kgt's website and learn everybody. You can all benefit from his experience and excellent write-ups.

http://www.2kgt.com/

Check out his section on his gear install. Read the graphs and learn:

This picture should clear up some things for some people(auto tranny):

Oh, BTW, I am a firm believer that a stock GT will be able to reach a higher top speed on the highway with 3.73 or 4.10 gears when compared to stock 3.27 gears. You can spin the wheels of a GT faster with the 3.27 gears, but on the highway, you won't be able to reach a higher speed, unless you mod the car to make significantly more power so that it can fully use the stock gearing. Who wants to go over 200mph in a GT or any other street car for that matter?

Someone do the math 245/45-17 tire with 4.10 gears at 6000 rpm.

Yes that shows that the theoretical top speed for the green gears is less than the blue gears. What it doesn't show you is that with the green gears the rpm range of the motor at the same and higher old ACTUAL vehicle top speed gives more power, and so can sustain a higher ACTUAL speed than the blue gears. Also, the green gears will give a bigger torque/power multiplication to the ground and provide even more power at the wheels, thus allowing more higher ACTUAL top speed.

The graph does at least show that 4th gear starts at an earlier mph and that the rpms and thus power are higher with the 3.73s at the top end of the graph. This should be enough for most to understand that you can reach a higher speed with a slightly lower geared rear end if your car's top speed is drag limited and not gearing limited.
