Max tire size without rub 86GT Conv

The Folks at AFS wheels just got back to me and said I could run 255/40/17. Has anyone run this in the front on a <91 GT Fox body? I am told that 91-93 have a larger wheel well. I'd like to go bigger on the back I was thinking more along the lines of 295/40/17. I would imagine I will have to remove the Quad, any other Mods required? Anyone in the same ballpark?
